At Port of Spain, Trinidad, February 16, 17, 19, 20. West Indies won by ten wickets. On a showery first day India, without Jaisimha and the Nawab of Pataudi, both injured, struggled against the West Indies fast bowling battery of Hall, Watson and Stayers, who were able to make the ball move in the air and rise off the pitch.

Six men went for 89, but Surti and Durani improved the position by adding 81 for the seventh wicket, and brightened the game by courageous hitting.

West Indies had to use Smith as wicket-keeper on the second day, Hendricks having a broken finger.

India fought back well, with Durani bowling his leg-spinners skilfully, and at the close of the second day, although Hunte and Sobers batted well, West Indies were 148 for six. Again a seventh-wicket stand proved important, for Hendricks, despite his finger injury, helped Solomons to add 64. Hendricks went on to become top scorer.

Batting again 86 behind, India made a wretched start against the fiery Hall who took the first three wickets in four balls, and at 49 for four they ended the third day still 37 behind.

The spin of Sobers and Gibbs proved just as effective on the fourth day and India were all out for 98, their lowest total in a Test against West Indies, who needed only 13 to win.
