WEST INDIES v NEW ZEALAND

At Port-of-Spain, March 30

15-Apr-1997
At Port-of-Spain, March 30. West Indies won by seven wickets. Toss: New Zealand. International debut: L. R. Williams.
The New Zealanders had feared, and the crowd expected, something special from Lara on his home ground. He obliged with his eighth century in limited-overs internationals, an incredible 146 not out from 134 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes, the last of which won the game. Lara shared hundred partnerships with Simmons and Adams; New Zealand, overjoyed when Larsen removed both West Indies openers for six, could only stand and watch the master at work. Earlier, Twose and Astle had lifted New Zealand to 104 for one in the 27th over. But erratic batting and unwise running - West Indies pulled off three run-outs - prevented the tourists from building on that start.
Man of the Match: B. C. Lara.
