West Indies v Zimbabwe 2000

At Canterbury, July 11

15-Apr-2001
At Canterbury, July 11. Zimbabwe won by 70 runs. Toss: West Indies.
Zimbabwe's third straight win meant that, with more than half the tournament still to play, they had already secured their place in the final. Their resounding success here was due more to West Indian failings than their own performance, though Whittall, whose 83 matched his highest one-day international score, and the blossoming Alistair Campbell found the going easy against some toothless bowling. Whittall was dropped three times, while Jacobs missed a clear chance to stump Campbell. Zimbabwe's keen eye for the quick single - only 50 runs came from boundaries - exposed countless deficiencies in the field. The West Indian batsmen looked no better organised when they set off in pursuit of 257: the first five went for 40, leaving the lower order to salvage some pride. Jacobs made 37 and McLean a 70-ball half-century, but it was much too little much too late.
Man of the Match: G. J. Whittall. Attendance: 5,200; receipts £83,003.
