Bangladesh v Afghanistan, 2016-17
Wisden's review of the second ODI, Bangladesh v Afghanistan, 2016-17
Afghanistan stunned the Mirpur crowd with their second win over Bangladesh (their first had come in the 2014 Asia Cup). The bowlers set it up, as Bangladesh slid to 165-9. The top five all got starts, but none made fifty, and Rashid Khan's googlies and flippers proved lethal. Only Mosaddek Hossain's 45* on debut, including the lion's share of a 43-run stand with last man Rubel Hossain, dragged them over 200. Afghanistan's reply teetered at 63-4 after two wickets in three balls for Shakib, who was superb again, and one for the off-spin of Mosaddek - the first Bangladeshi to take a wicket with his first ball in ODIs. But Asghar Stanikzai and Mohammad Nabi shared a careful century stand to establish a strong position. There was still time for nerves: Stanikzai's impatient hoick ended a 95-ball 57, and left things to the tail. It got down to the last over, but Dawlat Zadran sliced his first ball to third man for the winning four.
