Bangladesh v India, 2014

Wisden's review of the second ODI, Bangladesh v India, 2014

15-Apr-2015
At Mirpur, June 17, 2014 (day/night). India won by 47 runs (D/L). Toss: Bangladesh. One-day international debuts: Mithun Ali, Taskin Ahmed.
It started so well for Bangladesh - bowling India out for 105 - but ended in shambles, as they subsided for 58, equalling their lowest one-day total, against West Indies in the 2011 World Cup. On a spiteful pitch, the Indian batsmen had been discomfited by the pace of 19-year-old Taskin Ahmed, who varied his length well and became the first to take five wickets on one-day debut for Bangladesh. India were not helped when Raina, their captain and top scorer, turned blind for a second run and was beaten by Al-Amin Hossain's return from deep square leg. A rainbreak early in India's innings chopped nine overs from each side's allocation, but Bangladesh's target did not change. Mohit Sharma removed both openers cheaply, but the home side looked well on course at 44 for two. Then medium-pacer Stuart Binny turned the game on its head. After starting with a maiden, he removed Mushfiqur Rahim in his second over, then Mithun Ali (another debutant) and Mahmudullah with successive balls in the next. The embarrassing slide continued, and Binny finished with six for four, India's best figures in one-day internationals; back in 1980-81, his father Roger had briefly held the record after taking four for 41 against Australia. The match aggregate of 163 runs was the lowest in any one-day international in which all 20 wickets fell, easily undercutting the 203 of Kenya (134) and Zimbabwe (69) at Harare in March 2006.
Man of the Match: S. T. R. Binny.
