Bangladesh v South Africa, 2015

Wisden's review of the second ODI, Bangladesh v South Africa, 2015

15-Apr-2016
Second one-day international At Mirpur, July 12, 2015 (day/night). Bangladesh won by seven wickets. ‡South Africa 162 (46 overs) (F. du Plessis 41, F. Behardien 36; Mustafizur Rahman 3-38, Nasir Hossain 3-26); Bangladesh 167-3 (27.4 overs) (Soumya Sarkar 88*, Mahmudullah 50). MoM: Soumya Sarkar. A return to traditional strengths on a dry pitch served Bangladesh well, as spinners Shakib Al Hasan and Nasir Hossain strangled the middle order with tight lines and clever fieldplacings.
The experienced Shakib goaded the batsmen with tantalising flight while conceding only 30 in ten overs, and his frugality contributed to a career-best 3-26 for off-spinner Nasir. Rossouw and David Miller reflected the almost catatonic state of the South African batting, scratching their way to four and nine from 24 balls apiece. Mustafizur reprised some of the unusual skills which had brought him 13 wickets against India a month earlier, with his cutters and slower balls too wily for most. Rabada briefly gave South Africa hope with two quick wickets - Tamim donated the first with an unnecessary heave - but Soumya Sarkar's aerial counter-attack made sure of a win which sealed Bangladesh's place in the 2017 Champions Trophy. In a naive attempt to intimidate the home side, Rossouw led a physical and verbal assault at the beginning of the run-chase, brushing shoulders with Tamim after he was dismissed. Rossouw was fortunate it cost him only half his match fee.
