New Zealand v Australia

Wisden's review of the third ODI, New Zealand v Australia

11-Apr-2018
At Hamilton, February 5, 2017. New Zealand won by 24 runs. Toss: New Zealand.
Leading New Zealand's defence of 281, Boult claimed six for 33, his best return, to underline his No. 1 one-day ranking and secure New Zealand's eighth successive win in home bilateral 50-over series. Australia lost wickets in bunches: Marsh and Handscomb fell with the total on 44 in the eighth over, Finch and Maxwell six balls apart in the 21st and 22nd, and Head and Faulkner in the 33rd, to make it 174 for six. Santner, on his 25th birthday, lured Stoinis into a slapped drive to long-on for his second scalp, and had conceded only 19 at the end of his eighth over. Starc and Cummins belted 31 off his last two to rekindle Australian hopes but, when Boult beat Cummins for pace, the contest was finished. Earlier, Taylor had cruised to his 16th ODI century, equalling Nathan Astle's New Zealand record. He was savage early on - beating Brownlie to 50 despite conceding a 36-run head start - then consolidated after four wickets fell for 33, including Brownlie for a personal-best 63. Taylor went from 68 to 97 in singles, expertly guiding New Zealand into a winning position.
Man of the Match: T. A. Boult.
