West Indies v South Africa, 2014-15

Wisden's review of the first ODI, West Indies v South Africa, 2014-15

15-Apr-2015
At Durban, January 16, 2015 (day/night). South Africa won by 61 runs (D/L). Toss: South Africa. One-day international debut: J. L. Carter.
South Africa started badly, as Taylor inflicted ducks on Rossouw and du Plessis (his first in one day internationals, after 60 innings and 1,892 runs). But Amla had the antidote: his run-a-ball 66 whisked him past 5,000 in 101 one-day innings, 13 fewer than Viv Richards's record. Amla added 99 with de Villiers, who then put on 123 with Miller. Still, the eventual total when rain interrupted proceedings was not huge: West Indies' target was revised to 226 off 32. Gayle, hitting out at everything, put on 51 for the first wicket with Dwayne Smith but, after he fell for 41, the remaining wickets could cobble together only 113. At 23 years 72 days, Jason Holder was West Indies' youngest captain in any international match.
Man of the Match: A. B. de Villiers.
