Zimbabwe v South Africa, 2014-15

Wisden's review of the second ODI, Zimbabwe v South Africa, 2014-15

15-Apr-2015
At Bulawayo, August 19, 2014. Second one-day international: South Africa won by 61 runs. South Africa 257 (49.4 overs) (Q. de Kock 38, F. du Plessis 55, J-P. Duminy 36, D. A. Miller 45); ‡Zimbabwe 196 (49.1 overs) (S. C. Williams 55; W. D. Parnell 3-28, R. McLaren 3-21). MoM: W. D. Parnell.
Not since their 48-run victory at Chelmsford in the 1999 World Cup had Zimbabwe bowled out South Africa in a one-day international. But a batting collapse meant their pleasure was short-lived - and cost them the series. De Kock, in his 21st innings, became the joint-fastest to 1,000 one-day international runs (alongside Viv Richards, Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott), but South Africa's uncertain display was summed up by two stutters - three for 13 and five for 53 - on a turning surface which encouraged the Zimbabweans to pick four slow bowlers. De Villiers ran himself out in chaotic fashion: he set off after aiming a flick to leg, only for the ball to land within reach of wicketkeeper Richmond Mutumbami, who picked it up and whipped off the bails; de Villiers later dropped Mutumbami at slip. It fell to Wayne Parnell (24) and Kyle Abbott (23) to supply a handy buffer. Zimbabwe responded by flopping to 88-6; Williams's second successive fifty proved futile.
