At Abu Dhabi, February 27, 2012 (floodlit). England won by five runs. Toss: England.
England ended their two-month odyssey in the desert with a thrilling victory to secure the series 2-1. Misbah-ul-Haq needed to hit the final ball of the match for six, but an audacious slower delivery out of the back of the hand from Dernbach proved too clever, crashing into the stumps as Misbah failed to connect with a leg-side heave. That completed a dramatic late comeback from England's bowlers after Pakistan had reached the last three overs requiring 23 with seven wickets in hand. But Dernbach conceded only six in the 18th over, then Broad went for just four - courtesy of a misfield by Bairstow at long-on - in the 19th, which included the wicket of Umar Akmal. The 13 runs Pakistan thus needed from the last proved too many, rendering Pietersen's unbeaten 62 on a sluggish track the decisive innings.
