Dhoni hit the winning runs with 13 balls to spare, but the night belonged to Yuvraj Singh, whose whirlwind 38 followed career-best Twenty20 international figures. His left-arm spin had applied the brakes after England reached 89 for one in ten overs, thanks to a stand of 68 between Hales and Wright. Dropped from India's Test squad the previous week, Yuvraj removed both plus Morgan, the stand-in captain, in the space of ten balls. It needed an inventive innings from Buttler, taking over wicketkeeping duties after Jonny Bairstow was dropped, to lift England to a respectable total in the first international played at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium near Pune. But three wides in Dernbach's opening over set the tone for an ill-disciplined bowling performance and, although Bresnan dismissed both openers in the fifth over, Yuvraj had broken the back of the chase by the time he fell to the last ball of the tenth. Victory against weakened opponents was scant consolation for India after their travails in the Tests, with the injured duo of Stuart Broad - England's Twenty20 captain - and Steven Finn back home, along with the rested Kevin Pietersen and Graeme Swann.
