Sri Lanka v Pakistan, 2012

A review of Sri Lanka v Pakistan, fourth ODI, 2012

15-Apr-2013
At Colombo (RPS), June 16, 2012 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by 44 runs.
Toss: Sri Lanka.
Perera's hat-trick turned the match on its head during a passage of play which immediately joined the long list of madcap moments involving Pakistan. With ten overs to go, they were 176 for four, requiring another 68 for a series lead. But Younis Khan was caught behind, Shahid Afridi lobbed feebly to cover, and Sarfraz Ahmed was clasped low down by Jayawardene, who had moved himself to wide slip for the hat-trick ball. From the last delivery of the over, Azhar Ali - who had played superbly until pulling a calf muscle - called Sohail Tanvir for a leg-bye, only to change his mind and leave him stranded. And in the next over, Umar Gul bagged the sixth duck of the innings, equalling the one-day international record. Pakistan had lost five wickets in seven legitimate balls, and surrendered their last eight for 33, a sorry figure massaged by a tenth-wicket stand of 20. Azhar became only the ninth batsman - and second from Pakistan, after Saeed Anwar - to carry his bat through a completed one-day international innings.
Man of the Match: N. L. T. C. Perera.
