England v South Africa, 2012

A review of the Kent v South Africans tour match, 2012

15-Apr-2013
At Canterbury, July 13-15. Drawn. Toss: South Africans.
Bad weather, and the positive approach of Kent's young homegrown opening pair, restricted the South Africans' scope for batting practice in their second and final warm-up match before the First Test. Northeast, the 22-year-old acting-captain, and Bell-Drummond, not quite 19, started the match with a stand of 81, and ended it with an unbroken 105 to wipe out the deficit. In Kent's first innings, the last seven wickets fell for 86 as Morne Morkel and Imran Tahir, with his best figures for his adopted country, found their range. Rain permitted only 22 overs on the second day, but the South African top seven all spent at least half an hour at the crease.
Close of play: first day, South Africans 31-1 (Petersen 8, Amla 1); second day, South Africans 108-2 (Amla 36, Kallis 23).
