Pakistan found they were no longer the only show in town, as Afghans flocked to the Sharjah Stadium to watch their country's maiden one-day international against a Full Member - but the more polished side brought down the curtain with nearly 13 overs to spare.

Karim Sadiq gave Afghanistan a rousing start with 40 off 47 balls, including two sixes, and Mohammad Shahzad, the rambunctious wicketkeeper-batsman, reverse-swept another off Saeed Ajmal's third ball - the same bowler who had tied England in knots in the Test series. Mohammad Nabi, who plays his cricket like a lesser Shahid Afridi, hit the man himself into the top tier of the main stand. But after taking Afghanistan to 147 for five in the 35th over, Nabi was run out from midwicket after backing up too far, in effect ending any hopes of a surprise win.

Afridi picked up his third five-for in six one-day internationals, which hastened Afghanistan's capitulation and moved him past Anil Kumble into second among spinners in the list of one-day international wicket-takers, with 338 to Muttiah Muralitharan's 534. Younis Khan put on 99 with Misbah-ul-Haq as Pakistan coasted home.
