Women's World Twenty20, 2009

Wisden's review of the first semi-final between India Women and New Zealand Women, Women's World Twenty20, 2009

15-Apr-2010
At Nottingham, June 18. New Zealand won by 52 runs. Toss: New Zealand.
The first semi-final proved something of a false dawn, with crowds and press attention modest, and New Zealand's fourth straight victory too easy. Their captain, Aimee Watkins, struck a commanding 89 not out from 58 balls, with ten fours and two sixes - the first when she swung Gouhar Sultana's off-spin over square leg into the stand, the second over extra cover off the final ball of the innings, from Rumeli Dhar. It was the highest innings in the women's or men's tournaments until the following day, when Tillekeratne Dilshan scored 96 not out againstWest Indies in the men's semi-final. Needing 7.3 an over, India were hemmed in by disciplined seam bowling and, though they survived their 20 overs, mustered only 93 runs.
