Wisden's review of India v Ireland, World Twenty20, 2009
15-Apr-2010
At Nottingham, June 10. India won by eight wickets. India 2 pts. Toss: India.
Ireland's undefeated record in Twenty20 internationals came to a sticky end in a match
reduced by drizzle to 18 overs a side; before this they had four wins and a no-result against
Associates and Bangladesh. As they had already qualified, Ireland rested Johnston
(shoulder niggle) and Niall O'Brien (ankle), but were soon in trouble against the swing of
Zaheer Khan, who had three for ten after his first two overs. A plucky display from White
helped Ireland set a three-figure target, but Gambhir and Rohit Sharma took few risks in
putting on 77 before Gambhir sliced the burly New Zealand-born slow left-armer West -
who had earlier been run out after failing to ground his bat - to point.
Man of the Match: Zaheer Khan. Attendance: 15,645.
