South Australia fast bowler Daniel Worrall will miss the start of next season after being suspended for two matches for a bizarre incident during last week's Futures League game at Toorak Park in Melbourne.
Cricket Australia said in a statement that during the match, "Worrall scratched an image of a penis and testicles into a wicket that was being prepared for a grade cricket final that coming weekend".
Worrall was reported for breaching the Cricket Australia Code of Behaviour by "acting in a way that was unbecoming of a representative and brought the game of cricket into disrepute".
Match referee Daryl Cox imposed a penalty of four suspension points, equal to two four-day games or four one-day or Twenty20 matches, which will be served at the start of next summer. Worrall pleaded guilty to the charge but disputed the penalty, which was then upheld at a formal hearing on Tuesday morning.
Jamie Cox, the SACA general manager high performance, said: "We are extremely disappointed in Daniel's actions; it is not in line with the behaviour we expect of a Redbacks player. We do believe this out of character for Daniel; he regrets his behaviour and has accepted the penalty."
Worrall played one Sheffield Shield match for South Australia this season as well as two BBL games for the Melbourne Stars.
