Should away wins in the IPL fetch more points than home wins?

Roughly three in four games this year have been won by the home team. This suggests that home advantage is playing a big part in the proceedings. Away teams deserve to be rewarded extra if they can win in alien conditions.

The IPL should also be wary of over-reacting to this trend, which has surfaced for the first time in six seasons. Awarding extra points for away wins will only incentivise teams to doctor pitches and conditions, to ensure they don't concede crucial away points.

Away wins could also come into picture when the teams are tied on teams..just like the UEFA championship happens in Euro Club football..something on the similar lines. When 2 teams are tied on points, away wins should come into picture

Teams playing away from home, in different conditions and different pitch.Different Atmosphere...

Considering adjusting and adapting to different conditions so quickly and winning in quite a effort.

So if giving an extra point is valid: Consider below point system Winning @ home: 3 pts Winning away: 4 pts

The idea of visiting a different location, not having full control of your routine, then performing in front of thousands and thousands who are rooting against you, cheering for the success of your opponents, and jeering at your effort, has to have an enhanced reward. That said, additional support mechanism for the local team has to be in place - i.e. teams should be able to sign their players for long term - as long a term as the two parties want. Players are the basic unit of each team, and they would be willing to drop anchor in the community of their team if they have some guarantee that they are there for the long haul. The community in turn becomes loyal to the units and collective team more feverishly then the bonus point would have to be truly earned.

I say NO to the question..within India no pitch is alien..if they say Indian pitches as alien then what to call the Australian south african or a carribian pitches. Save the word "Alien" for other topics.. :)

I will say NO. There is no advantage in IPL for home teams. They are all playing in India and players on the other teams also played in such conditions prior. You can consider that if one team is from different continent like Europe, Australia etc. T20 is game is any ones game. Given day horrible team can win on best team like Pune did on Chennai in their ground.

Away games in ipl actually arent away games. Teams in ipl have players from all over the country & anyway indian players play across the country first class. So theres no point awarding extra points for away wins as the players have lot of experience playing in these stadiums

Never saw this phenomenon in earlier editions. This may because the teams have grown in quality and they are doing too good to defend their home turfs. Ofcourse home teams doctor pitches to their advantage but this home advantage concept is there since the inception of cricket. NO need of additional points for winning away matches. Away match or Home mathc - you play quality cricket, you win! You play poor cricket, you lose!!

Instead i would say, when team tie up on points table; we can count who has won more away wins and then to NRR if required

Already we have the matches between teams as one Home game and one Away game. Both the teams have been provided with equal opportunities to win the games. This idea of awarding more points to Away win will mostly increase the possibility of Home teams doctoring the pitches to favor them than providing a sporting pitch.

Even if we consider this type of T20 leagues, comparing with football leagues (which are present for a longer duration than T20 leagues), if teams are equal in points, then the Goal Difference/H2H will determine the winner. Same way, NRR/H2H shall be use to determine which is the better team. The current format is a good one and especially this year has thrown some surprises like DD & KKR (regn champions) struggling & normalcy like PW at bottom & CSK at the top.
