IPL 2013

May 21, 2013

Following Pune's pullout, should the IPL become an eight-team event?

Yes

The quality of the cricket will improve if there are eight teams instead of nine. Fewer matches will make for a shorter, sharper tournament.

No

Pune should be replaced with another franchise. More teams means more games, more action, and ultimately more money flowing into the game.

Yes the IPL should have eight teams because less teams will make a tournament shorter & it allows more players to play for star studded sides

It would be a very bad idea to split the teams into 4 divisions representing North, South, East, and West. What if the 2 best teams are CSK and RCB? Just because they belong to the South Division, only one of the teams will qualify. And, that's very unfortunate.

Having 8 teams is just about right. I'd, however, like to have some relaxations plus additional rules for players... 1) At least 2-3 players in a team should be playing/representing the state/city - this will give the required local flavor to each team. 2) Up to 5 foreign players in a team.

Eight teams makes the competition short and sharp, but increasing it allows more players in and allows more players to share in the riches that is playing in the IPL.

i like the idea of "the_Srikanth" except for, choose Kanpur instead of Nagpur. Each franchise should represent a state/region. Current 8 franchises represents: 1. MI (Maharastra, Goa) 2. KKR (West Bengal) 3. CSK (Tamil Nadu) 4. RCB (Karnataka, Goa) 5. SH (Andhra Pradesh) 6. RR (Rajasthan) 7. PXI (Punjab, Haryana) 8. DD (Delhi) Could or should add cities like: Ahmedabad (Gujrat), Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Kochi (Kerala), Indore (Madhya Pradesh)

Ipl can be made exciting by having more teams. This is how it should be done. Add 4 new franchises to take the totla number to 12. then divide them up into divisions. For example South division: Chennai, Bangalore, Hyd, Kochi. West division: Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur. North division: Kolkata, Delhi, Punjab, Nagpur. Now eachh team plays its division member twice -home and away - and every other team once - 4 home and 4 away. For example. Mumbai will play Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur twice each - home and away -. The they will play Kolkata, Delhi, Punjab, Nagpur at home. and they will play Chennai, Bangalore, Hyd, Koch away. That way, each team plays 14 games in a season. There will be a total of 84 games plus 4 playoff games in a season. And every team would have met every other team at least once. The top scorer from each division qualifies automatically. the fourth playoff qualifying team will be once who has the highest points but is not a division topper.

I think 10 teams would be enough. I would have said 8 is alright but the largest state (Uttar) has no team. Lucknow and Ranchi need one.

I think its time, franchises were made into clubs. The BCCI should sell the teams to the owners like in EPL. Because right now, it is hard to support when you don't know if ur franchise will be around next yr.

Look how many ppl were disappointed. Kochi is gone. Deccan chargers gone. Pune gone. KingsXI and RR were about to be terminated but court overruled. IPL is run childishly. Who know which team will survive next year.

Make franchises into clubs. Who agrees with me?

IPL should be a 12 team tournament with 2 groups of 6, each team playing the other teams in the group on a home and away basis. A1 can play B1 in Qualifier 1, with A2 playng B2 in the Eliminator. The winner of the Qualiier can go the final while the loser plays the winner of the eliminator in Qualifier 2. This format has less games, more teams and therefore more fun. Other states in India should have a team to support instead of adopting a home team. I think Lucknow, Kochi, Indore and Ranchi should make the cut.
