A tall left-arm fast bowler, Joel Paris made his name as a state cricketer in the one-day format with two impressive Matador Cup campaigns in 2014-15 and 2015-16. His ability to swing the ball made him a key weapon for Western Australia, who won the tournament in 2014-15 in part thanks to his tally of 13 victims at 12.92. The following summer he picked up 10 Matdor Cup wickets at 22.40, and showed his talent with the red ball as well, with 14 wickets in his first two Sheffield Shield appearances. Paris had impressed Australia's selectors so much that he was included in the ODI squad to play India in 2015-16 in the absence of injured fellow left-armer Mitchell Starc.
