Odean Smith

Among a line of modern West Indies pace-bowling allrounders in limited-overs cricket, Odean Smith modelled himself on Andre Russell. He was mainly used as a bowler initially in his competitive career. The first glimpse of Smith's impactful ball-striking abilities, though, came for West Indies B at the Super50 Cup in October 2018, more than three years after his List A debut.

But by that time, Smith had already played for West Indies. That call, to tour in Pakistan in early 2018, however, had come because several regulars had opted out due to security concerns. Smith didn't put up a notable performance then, but returned to international cricket for another tour of Pakistan - in December 2021 - on the back of 18 wickets for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL earlier that year.

An ODI debut, at home against Ireland, followed in January 2022, and Smith produced an all-round show - including clubbing 46 off just 19 balls, and landing the ball on the roof of team-mate Sheldon Cottrell's parked car.

He then went to India for a limited-overs tour immediately after, and dismissed Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the second ODI. The series featured two smashing cameos with the bat too, and he landed himself an IPL deal with Punjab Kings. In a game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Smith finished off a chase of 206 by clobbering 25* off just eight balls.

Just after that, Smith also earned his maiden Cricket West Indies retainer contract, was effective with both bat and ball for Amazon in the CPL, and then played in the T20 World Cup in 2022. He also has stints in the ILT20, SA20, BPL, PSL and Abu Dhabi T10.
