Bangladesh 213 for 7 (Soumya 45, Rishad 39*, Motie 3-65) vs West Indies
Rishad Hossain spruced up Bangladesh's total with a big-hitting finish in Dhaka. The home side posted 213 for 7 against 50 overs of spin bowling from the West Indies, which is a first in ODI cricket.
Soumya Sarkar top-scored for Bangladesh with 45 but it was Rishad's last-gasp effort that gave a decent score on a difficult pitch. He made an unbeaten 39 off 14 balls with three sixes and as many fours, all of which came in the last 2.1 overs. He added 50 runs for the unbroken eighth wicket stand with captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was unbeaten on 32 off 58 balls.
Gudakesh Motie was West Indies' most successful bowler with three wickets but Rishad's finishing kick made the left-arm spinner concede 65 runs in his 10 overs. Akeal Hosein and Alick Athanaze (10-3-14-2) ended with two wickets each as the visitors overhauled a record that had stood since 2004, when Sri Lanka plied Australia with 44 overs of spin.
The intrigue around the Dhaka pitch continued. It was unusually black in the first game. Now it was filled with cracks. Bangladesh were expectedly watchful after choosing to bat. Sarkar struck Roston Chase for two fours in the first four overs, before Saif Hassan went after Hosein with a slog swept six. Hosein however removed Saif next ball, with Justin Greaves taking a low catch at slip.
Towhid Hridoy was sent to bat at No 3 for only the second time in his career, though he didn't last long. He struck two fours before his attempted slog against Motie only ended up as a simple catch at point.
Najmul Hossain Shanto had an almost identical outing. He played out 20 deliveries before holing out to a half-tracker from part-timer Athanaze. Mahidul Islam tried to raise the run-rate but he couldn't quite rotate the strike often enough. Shai Hope dropped him before he opened his account, before Athanaze had him caught in the deep midwicket boundary for 17. Bangladesh were 96 for 4 after 28 overs.
Sarkar meanwhile held up his end, playing out 89 balls. He struck three fours and a six, before also holing out in the 31st over. Bangladesh sent Nasum Ahmed at No. 7, to maintain a left-right combination at the crease. He struck a six off Motie but fell to him later in the same 39th over with the score 128 for 6.
Bangladesh prospered from there with Mehidy and Nurul Hasan adding 35 runs for the seventh wicket. Nurul boosted the run-rate with his strokeplay, hitting Motie for a six, before Greaves dropped his second chance of the match a few balls later. Nurul struck two more fours, while Mehidy struck one through point to get first his boundary. Brandon King also dropped Mehidy when he was on 18, before Motie had Nurul caught and bowled in the 46th over.
From that point, Rishad took over and gave Bangladesh a great finish in an otherwise sluggish innings.
