Toss New Zealand opt to field vs West Indies
For the second day in a row in Nelson, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss, and this time, put West Indies in to bat. There's potentially some rain around, and the weather is chilly, and Santner noted those as factors that influenced his decision. West Indies captain Shai Hope was happy to take the decision in his stride on what he called a "decent wicket".
Both sides made a change each. For New Zealand, Mark Chapman, who had missed out on the third T20I due to illness, came in for Mitchell Hay, which in theory, extends their batting. For West Indies, Roston Chase replaced Akeal Hosein, which gives West Indies a more batting depth as well, apart from a right-arm fingerspinner for a left-arm one.
The pitch is the same as the third T20I played just a day before on Sunday. From the Saxton end, the fine boundaries are short while the square ones are longer. Former New Zealand quick Shane Bond said the pitch is better for the batters than it was for the previous game.
New Zealand had also bowled first in the third T20I, and took a 2-1 series lead with a nine-run win. A New Zealand win on Monday will hand them a series win, while a West Indies win will set up a decider in Dunedin on Thursday.
