USA name side for international comeback
More than a year since they were suspended from international cricket, the USA have named their side for their comeback in the ICC World Cricket League Division Five which takes place in Jersey next month

More than a year since they were suspended from international cricket, the USA have named their side for their comeback in the ICC World Cricket League Division Five which takes place in Jersey next month. The side will be captained by Steve Messiah, who led them during their last outing in August 2006.
The USA were, at that time, in the World Cricket League Division One, and were it not for the suspension imposed by the ICC they would almost certainly have been in the mix at the ICC World Cup Qualifiers next year. As it stands, they will need to win promotion from Division Five and Four and then win the Division Three event next January to be invited to the qualifying tournament for the 2011 World Cup.
The event in Jersey will also feature Afghanistan, Bahamas, Botswana, Germany, Japan, Jersey, Mozambique, Nepal, Norway, Singapore and Vanuatu. The top two sides will be promoted to Division Four which will be held in September.

Kenya, tipped by some as one of the teams to watch, were easily beaten by an ICC Americas team in the first round of the Clico International Under-15 Championship. Set a modest 134 to win, ICC Americas eased to a six-wicket win with more than 13 overs to spare.
Kenya won the toss but never got their innings going and limped to 133. Bermuda’s Joshua Gilbert, who had taken 2 for 11 with his offspin, played the anchor innings with an unbeaten 43 off 97 balls, twice being dropped, but that was not enough to win him the Man-of-the-Match award which went to Nitisj Kumar who took 3 for 14.
In the day’s other game, Pakistan beat Ireland by eight wickets to book a semi-final against Bangladesh while ICC Americas will play West Indies. Ireland managed only 99 off 43.3 overs, Usman Qadir, the son of the legendary Abdul Qadir, taking 3 for 22, a score Pakistan passed in 20.5 overs.

An unbeaten 122 from Kraigg Brathwaite was the highlight of the opening matches in the Clico International Under-15 Championships. His innings steered West Indies to 240 for 6 and they then bowled out Malaysia for 94 to record a 146-run victory. Click here for a full report.
The match between Bangladesh and Netherlands turned out to be a one-sided affair with the Dutch being bundled out for 94 after being put in to bat. Netherlands, who were 58 for 9 at one stage, only saved face with a last-wicket stand of 36. Khaza Khairuddin was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh taking 3 for 24. Bangladesh cruised to 95 for 1 with the captain, Nazeef Ahmed, scoring 32 and Ahamedul Kabir 43 not out.
Bangladesh now meet the winner of the game between Pakistan and Ireland, which is scheduled for Sunday April 20, 2008.

The Trinidad & Tobago Development XI thrashed Canada's women by 151 runs at the National Cricket Centre. The home side eased to 203 for 7, with Amanda Samaroo (60) and Jerveena Pollocksingh (49) leading the way. Canada were as good as down and out as they limped to 6 for 4, and although they extended their innings to the 33rd over they only scraped 52.

In an extensive interview with the Royal Gazette Logie bluntly accepts that a change is mindset will be vital if Bermuda are ever to seriously challenge the upper echelons of cricket's established order. But he also offers an explanation to their continually poor results.

Colin Siller, a former Scotland league cricketer, has been named as Fiji's new coach.
He said: "It is a great honour to have been handed a head coach's role. Fiji were a founding member of the ICC and it will be my role to improve the cricket structure there from the senior team downwards. I am really looking forward to working with the young talent as well as getting to know the people."
Siller, who has played for Leith Franklin, Holy Cross, Corstorphine and Gala over the years as well as Watsonians, has previously worked as an age-grade coach with Ireland and was an assistant coach with Canada during the 2005 ICC Trophy. He was then headhunted by Zimbabwe Cricket in 2006 to become coach education manager and assistant coach for the national side.
The Scotsman has more. His first matches in charge will be against Vanuatu at home in mid-May when they will contest a three-match one-day series.

The plot for finals day became much clearer on day three of the Phuket International Cricket Sixes, as Leeming Spartans, Etihad Airways and Bahrain Camels eased through to the Cup semi-finals.
23 teams from eleven countries are competing for honours at this fifth annual Phuket Sixes, winner of the ICC Global Award for cricket development.
Etihad had a wonderful day today, beating both Corner Tigers of Pakistan and one of the form teams, Lamma CC of Hong Kong. The Tigers were restricted to a meagre 60 against the pumped-up Airways, with only Imran Idrees making his mark with a classy 35 not out. Etihad then knocked off the total without losing a wicket with 4 balls to spare, Azam retiring on 30 and Sanket – the dangerous left-hander - not out on 18. Then Etihad defeated Lamma CC, knocking off a challenging target of 79 to win with both Azam and Sanket again getting in the runs. Sher Lama had retired on 30 not out for the Hong Kong outfit. Lamma later defeated Corner Tigers to keep their hope alive of a place in the semi finals Sunday.
In Plate action The Entertainers faced the biggest challenge of the day as they chased the Uni Wanderers total of 105, the biggest score of the day. They gave it their all, but ran out of overs still 34 runs short of the target. Both Mark Parry and Trevor Higgins had retired for the Wanderers, each making an unbeaten 31.

Kabir Khan, the coach of the UAE cricket team, has stepped down to strengthen his coaching skills in Scotland.
"I have an opportunity to attend a Level-4 coaching course in Glasgow. The course is set to commence from May 1 and so I have asked the Emirates Cricket Board to relieve me of my duties."
"It was a great experience coaching the UAE team as it was my first assignment as a national team coach. There is lots of talent here but they can be a strong side if the cricket board can bring about some changes to their approach to the team."
"It is very important that the team is selected much ahead of an international tournament. The ECB officials should also try and provide basic facilities to the players like compensating them for the leave they take from their jobs."

Ghana will play Swaziland in the final of the ICC World Cricket League Africa Region Division Three.
Ghana had the easiest match, thrashing Rwanda by eight wickets with more than 39 overs in hand. Rwanda were bowled out for 23 in 11.1 overs, but that represented a recovery after they found themselves 13 for 8. Abdul-Karim Sumaila (4 for 11) and Isaac Aboagye (6 for 9) bowled unchanged throughout, while extras (9) contributed more than any individual batsman. Ghana lost both their openers in easing home.
Swaziland had to work harder, and survived a mini collapse within sight of the finishing line, before overcoming Sierra Leone by four wickets with 20 overs to spare in the battle of the group winners. Sierra Leone managed 116 thanks to an eighth-wicket stand of 50 which bailed them out from 50 for 7. Joseph Wright (5 for 17) was the man who blew away the top order. Swaziland were wobbling on 27 for 3 but Wright (48) and Abdulazis Patel (35*) put on 73 for the fourth wicket, and strikes from Lansana Lamin (4 for 19) came too late.
Lesotho lost to a South African Invitation XI by seven wickets in the fifth-place play-off.
