During a short first-class career that ran from 1959-60 to 1961-62, Charran Singh became one of the earliest people of South Asian extraction to play Test cricket for West Indies. That was in 1960, when he played twice against England, in Port of Spain (in a match remembered for an England win and serious crowd trouble) and in Georgetown, and picked up five wickets in four bowling innings with his left-arm spin.
Though the career was short, Singh had a good run, with a five-for in his first-class debut, for Trinidad against Jamaica in Georgetown. Picked to play for Trinidad against the visiting MCC team in only his second first-class match in January 1960, Singh returned another five-for, Mike 'MJK' Smith and Ted Dexter among his victims. That earned him a Test cap, but there wasn't a lot of success at that level, and Singh signed off with five more wickets in a tour game against the visiting Indians in February 1962, finishing his first-class career with 48 wickets in 11 games at an average of 23.93.
