He commenced his cricket with Innisfail playing in the Cairns DCA. He represented North Queensland Under 19 in each of 1993-94, 1994-95 and 1995-96 being team captain in the last two seasons. He represented North Queensland in 1996-97 and 1997-98, going on to represent Queensland Country in each season and being selected in the Australia Country team in 1997-98.
