Leon Garrick

Back in February 2001, Leon Garrick entered his name in West Indian cricket record books by being one half of the first quadruple-century opening partnership in their first-class history. The other half was Chris Gayle. For Jamaica, against West Indies B in the Busta Cup. The unbeaten 425 they added together hasn't been topped in West Indian first-class cricket.

Gayle had already played Test and ODI cricket by then, and it came soon for wicketkeeper-batter Garrick too. Within a couple of months of that partnership, against South Africa in Kingston. After he hit 174 not out in a tour match against the South Africans. He opened with Gayle there too, but fell on the first ball of the Test to Allan Donald. Garrick did better the second time out, scoring 27 in just over an hour-and-a-half. He never played Test cricket again.

On that same tour, he made his ODI debut as well, playing two games without creating much of an impression. He did the third time he played an ODI, though, scoring 76 in an opening partnership of 116 with Gayle against Kenya in Nairobi, but that turned out to be his last game for West Indies in any format.

Garrick continued playing representative cricket till the 2002-03 season.
