Sunzamul Islam

Sunzamul Islam is the quintessential one-Test wonder of the modern era. Picked after years of strong performances in domestic cricket, he failed in his only Test appearance. Sunzamul's figures of 1 for 153 against Sri Lanka on a road of a pitch at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram in 2018 were in stark contrast with his first-class numbers. The ICC rated the Chattogram pitch "below average" and handed one demerit point.

Sunzamul, who had played three ODIs before his Test debut, never represented Bangladesh again. But it does not take away anything from his excellent domestic performances. In November 2023, he became the fourth Bangladesh bowler to take 400 first-class wickets. His 9 for 80 against Central Zone in 2017-18 remains the best figures in an innings in first-class cricket in Bangladesh. With Rajshahi Division, Sunzamul won National Cricket League titles. He was the team's second-highest wicket-taker when they won in 2018-19.

A capable lower-order batter, Sunzamul has scored more than 3000 runs in first-class cricket. His best came against Chittagong Division in 2013-14, he scored 172 after coming in at 77 for 6. He and Farhad Reza added 347, which was the joint second-highest partnership for the seventh wicket at the time.
