Tom Wells is the son of the former Leicester Tigers rugby captain and coach, John Wells, who later moved on to become forwards coach with the England national team, Tom is a seam-bowling all-rounder who has been with Leicestershire from U-13 level. Some impressive performances for the Second XI in 2012 led to a senior competitive debut in a CB40 match against Gloucestershire.
His brightest moment came as the 2013 season ended: an excellent 82 from a total of 184 against Hampshire as Leicestershire, agreeing a double forfeit in a desperate attempt to break their Championship duck, instead collapsed and lost the match. Opportunity presented itself for Wells mostly in the NatWest T20 Blast, one of his best knocks being an energetic 64 not out off 28 balls at Derby in 2015. He was released in 2018.
