Harry Charlwood appeared in the first two Tests, in 1876-77, as an attacking top-order batsman, occasional lob bowler and specialist cover fielder. He was the mainstay in a poor Sussex side for several seasons, but his county career ended prematurely in 1882 when he moved to Derbyshire and then Yorkshire.
