Former Warwickshire player Tom Allin dies at 28

Tom Allin, the former Warwickshire fast bowler, has died at the age of 28.

His body was found by the Torridge Bridge, near Bideford in North Devon, on Monday night. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics who attended after calls from members of the public who saw Allin fall.

A police spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious. A file has been prepared and sent to the North Devon coroner.

Allin played one first-class game for Warwickshire in 2013 and a one-day game in 2011, and also played for Devon and Cardiff MCCU.

"Everyone at Edgbaston is immensely saddened by the news that former Warwickshire fast bowler Tom Allin has died," Warwickshire said in a statement.

"Tom was an incredibly popular member of the professional squad during his six years with Warwickshire, and he made one first-class and one List A appearance before returning to his native Devon at the end of the 2013 season.

"The thoughts of all at Warwickshire County Cricket Club are with Tom's family and friends, and we would ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time."

Allin came up through the Devon underage teams beginning at U-15 level before making his minor counties championship debut at age 19 in June 2007 against Wiltshire. The following April he debuted for Cardiff MCCU and by July 2008 he had cracked the Warwickshire Second XI.

The fast bowler remained a consistent fixture in Warwickshire's Second XI squad for the next several years and also enjoyed one tour with Marylebone Cricket Club in the UAE and Oman in 2010. Aside from his lone first-class match with Warwickshire in 2013, his solitary List A appearance for the county came against Surrey at Edgbaston in August 2011.

Allin was released from Warwickshire prior to the 2014 season. Most recently, he had continued playing in the minor counties competition for Devon, with his last appearance coming in August against Shropshire.

He was involved in primary school sports coaching in Barnstaple and Bideford and was head of cricket at Shebbear College as well as a coach at Bideford College.
