Railways registered a 10-wicket victory over Uttar Pradesh in their
Central Zone Ranji tie at the Karnail Singh Stadium, Delhi, today.
Uttar Pradesh, teetering at 38/3 overnight, collapsed in their second
innings for 129; only Mohammad Saif, scoring 34, was able to offer any
resistance. For Railways, Zakir Hussain took four wickets while
Kulamani Parida took three.
The collapse set Railways a measly total of 11 to win the match, which
they overhauled in two overs. Railways, thus, picks up eight points in
their Ranji campaign by virtue of registering an outright victory.
At Jaipur, Rajasthan declared on their overnight score of 533/4,
hoping to bowl Vidarbha out within the remaining day. They seemed to
be succeeding when, at one stage, they had their rivals at 94/4.
Paresh Sutane and Harshal Shitoot, however, denied the home side the
win, putting together a partnership of 117 runs. Sutane notched up 108
off 217 balls, with 15 fours and a six, while his partner remained
unbeaten at the close of play on 51, made off 140 balls.
With Vidarbha on 256/6 at the end of the day, the match was declared a
draw. Rajasthan pick up five points from this encounter while Vidarbha
take in the remaining three.
