8:06pm: Rain hasn't abated and the match has been officially abandoned without a ball being bowled. Both teams will share the points. Points Table

So that's all for tonight. Thanks for tuning in and for keeping the discussion going. We'll have to try again tomorrow. Paarl Royals will meet Pretoria Capitals in the first match of the day while Joburg Super Kings will square off against MI Cape Town in the second match of the double-header

7:55: Amazing how some of the die-hard cricket lovers have stayed put and are having a ball out there in the aisles. Kudos to their lively spirit. I mean it shows how you can create your own happiness. As far as cricket is concerned, it's pretty detrimental for the tournament to have so many games marred by rain, and this one looks likely to suffer the same fate. Hopes of a five-over abridged contest are withering as well

Mustafa Moudi : "Rain is the Table Toppers on the Points Table with 5 Wins. Guess this season is going to won by RAIN !!"

More covers are being brought on. A long, tiring day for the ground staff. Fleeting chances of any resumption and no official update on match abandonment yet.

Topspin: "I'm not saying climate change or global warming is not true, I'm just not a believer of the religion. It's natural to rain this time of year. "

Motown: "@Kaig - yep, climate change means when it rains it's gonna rain harder, so we will see more washouts (as well as more unplayably hot days)"

Pankaj: "This this the 18th match of tournament and if match get abandoned then we will have 5 NR. Don't know how many more match were there which were impacted by weather."

5:55pm: Players are chatting and gazing at the ground from the dressing room's glass window. Feel for the spectators who were looking forward to some cricket this weekend. The forecast doesn't change much over the next few hours and the light drizzle continues. The DJ is trying to amuse the fans who came in great numbers today

lunch: "@Buttlerverse - indeed. When that happened in Cape Town I instantly had a huge dislike for Butler. My nephew in Durban told me he admired Buttler whom he met when Buttler toured SA schools, and gradually over the years I've come to respect and appreciate Buttler myself. Seeing him on podcasts etc he seems quite gentle and soft spoken - much contrasting to my first taste of his other side all those years ago. when it's raining what else to do but read and reminisce about test cricket history."

Mustafa Moudi : "Was here to check the score of DSG vs SEC match but on the contrary witnessing a Buttlerverse vs Lunch Match :P"

5:25pm: Waiting for the clouds to clear and the rain to abate. It continues to tip down and the covers remain affixed for now

5:02pm: The toss has been delayed due to rain

kaig : "South Africa is always nice this time of year! Global warming?"

buttlerverse: "@lunch as a Jos Buttler worshipper, I'd be pretty disappointed in myself if I didnt know the one time my idol absolutely lost it in the field xD. Although the comment you made about the test and t20 leagues is absolutely spot on"

4:30pm: Hello and welcome to our coverage of the SA20.  It's going to be Durban's Super Giants versus Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The cricket carnival continues as we build up towards another game. We'll have the toss and team news for you soon.

AdnanKapri: "Oh: I just turned here after the game in Sri Lanka is called off without toss And Look the situation is same here the toss is delayed. "

harry : "sa20 second most important comp...1st in rain effected matches. .cricket will remain a minority gane for cricket afficionados if we do not get covered stadiums (ability to have closed roof)..."

lunch: "p.s. big shout out to the comment about Vern and Butler. lol. but more seriously that does demonstrate how test cricket remains deeply seated as the lifeblood of all cricket, these t20 franchise leagues would be very thin without it"

buttlerverse: "Vernon Philander on air appreciating Jos Buttler! Things I never thought I'd see in this lifetime and its top notch hilarious"

lunch: "It is a tricky issue this weather thing for SA20 - Durban is a moist, sub-tropical place but it's also one of the heartbeats of South African cricket and culture. The highveld is often dry at this time of year but the thunderstorms can hit at any moment. You could have it all in the west and interior but we did see a rainout or two there already as well, and then it means some of the most passionate fans are deeply removed from this important showcase. "

Roger: "IMHO the DSG team should be moved out of Durban because it rains far too much. Base it somewhere DRY! like Bloemfontein. Durban matches are cancelled due to weather more than all the other venues put together. Last season it was the same. Durban is an utterly useless cricket venue. "

After last night's abandoned contest following lightning and inclement weather conditions, we are back in hope of a thrilliang complete game but the forecast isn't clear of rain, there is about 50% chance of precipitation but we will most likely get through the game. Aiden Markram-led Durban have won only a solitary game and lost three matches, with two games abandoned owing to the weather playing spoilsport. They will have to make amends and ensure they tick all the boxes from their end to stay in contention for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Eastern Cape haven't erred so far and are gyrating their way towards qualification with one loss and three wins thus far.

There is more at stake for the Durban Super Giants, who are down at five, and the table-toppers won't make it any easier to help their cause. So, expect a tight tussle, as teams - considering the impact of the weather on this tournament - will want to make sure they take care of the controllables and not depend on other sides or results for a spot in the final four
