he's done it! Bowls another yorker at off stump, McCullum is deep in his crease in anticipation but that is too quick for him to get under. The front foot is out of the way, but the bat hasn't come down quickly enough. It's right off the bottom and straight at long-off
Guj Lions vs MI, 35th match at Rajkot, Apr 29 2017 - Match Result
Rohit has come out, Buttler will take strike
00.20 The first super over of the season, another pleasure to watch and bring to you. We'll be back in less than 15 hours for another double-header. See you then.
12.08am Splendid execution. Under a lot of pressure, a lot of frustration after a free-hit, but Bumrah never looked flustered. Mumbai were bailed out by Krunal and Bumrah. Lions fought, fought and scrapped their way in the latter half of their chase. A lot of frustration that Raina bowled four overs for 28 runs, but those overs slowed down the momentum, gave Mumbai the illusion of control with the game drifting along and then they were clutch in the last few overs through Faulkner and Thampi.
Krunal Pandya is the Man of the Match: "I feel I'm an allrounder, to contribute with bat, ball and in the field. The wicket wasn't easy, that you go in and hit big shots straightaway. About making sure we bat till the 20th over. When it was 2 ball, 2 runs, I tried for a big shot, but I had a chat with Malinga that I'll not go for a big shot."
Rohit Sharma, on his birthday: A good birthday present. First time part of the Super Over, something new for us. We got a good start, wicket was always going to get slower. Gujarat stuck to their plans and kept us guessing. Hats off to Krunal to be there, and finish, not finish the game, but hang around. We never had long partnerships going. Previous game doesn't matter too much. We never expected wicket to be so slow. Momentum plays a crucial part in this format. We've got great talent and about playing to our potential."
Raina: Yes, my heart is fine. Very exciting game. Bumrah bowled a very good over. With that reverse swing and accuracy, you can't do much. The wicket was pretty slow and we tried hard. We lost a couple of wickets up front but we bowled well. We came back really strongly, despite losing Tye. Honestly, we didn't put up a good score. All credit to the bowlers for bringing us back. I haven't seen Tye's injury yet."
Parthiv and Rohit are in the bowler's ear immediately. He looks calm. ....and Rohit comes in again before he bowls the last ball. It doesn't look like Bumrah is actually absorbing anything, to his credit
low full toss at off stump, Finch sways across the line and is beaten for pace. The bat turns in his hand and he can only bunt it to extra cover
superb. Superb. This is a fast yorker, full and just outside off. Finch backs away to try and bludgeon this, and is completely beaten
and another. Another slower ball dips under McCullum's bat outside off...but Patel fumbles and gives away a bye
oh whata ball. A slower ball again, dips on McCullum quickly and slides through from under his attempted heave, just missing off stump
Mccullum walks across the stumps, then shimmies back into his stance and has done enough to get Bumrah to wire a high, slower ball, full and wide of the marker outside off
another perfect yorker. This time Finch is inside the line and tries to ramp it over short fine. Gets no bat, cops it on the pad, and takes the run
the perfect yorker but he has overstepped! What a horrible time to do this. He follows Finch down the leg side, nails the yorker and beats him but he's given away a free hit
It looks like Bumrah will bowl. And Finch is ready to come out. Expectedly, McCullum will partner him. Finch taking strike.
Two dot balls for Mumbai, and one wasted ball. Will that be the difference? Faulkner is in coming down to the dugout...without pads on.
Mumbai don't play out their over. He goes full and swings it away from off stump, Buttler swipes across the line, and gets a top edge that goes high in the gully region. Ishan Kishan hangs under it for an eternity at backward point, then follows it and completes a diving catch low in front
Rohit has come out, Buttler will take strike
and he holes out! Faulkner goes for the yorker and just about misses it. It's a low full toss at leg stumpp. Pollard clears the front leg and launches it towards long-on, but he gets it off the toe. It's lobbed for Finch who takes cleanly
Faulkner goes over the wicket
not there. Not to Pollard. It's a length ball at middle stump. Once more, no feet, but the reach is enough. Brings out the arc and lifts it over long-on
offcutter, wide outside off stump. He uses his reach to get to this, without feet, and lifts it off the outside half of the bat to deep extra's right
three men behind square on the off side. Sweeper has moved to deep extra cover
back of a length at off stump, he backs away and slaps this to sweeper cove
Faulkner will bowl the Super Over. Pollard and Buttler are coming out.
So, both teams nominate three batsmen. One bowler. Mumbai will bat first. Lions are chasing again. It's the seventh tie in IPLs. What a game we've had so far.
is that out? There is a direct hit. Has Krunal made his ground? No he hasn't. It's a Super Over, the first of the IPL. Jadeja has done this with two direct hits. What fielding. Sensational. A yorker on the pads, Malinga misses a flick. The ball ricochets towards jadeja at point, picks up and throws the stumps down at the batsman's end to find Krunal short despite a dive. Magnificent fielding.
1 off 1. They can't lose in regulation. What was Irfan doing a month ago? He needs to protect one in a thriller in the IPL now. He has to beat him with a wide yorker? It's all about execution now. Bat on ball almost wins this match. Sweeper cover comes up, around the wicket.
full and straight, got some tail back in. I think that is really good batting. Pushed to mid-off for a riskless single.
2 off 2. Mid-off goes back. There is no one at point. Has to be straight, otherwise this game is done. He can't even try to beat him with a wide yorker. McCullum intervenes.
great work from Krunal. Great work from Roy. Short and wide, slow outside off. Carved through backward point for a couple. There is no point. Roy got around from sweeper cover
Krunal on strike. Will he take the single if he gets it? Can he get a riskless two? These aren't very big boundaries. Krunal needs to hit one gap
what is happening? That's run-out. Jadeja is the man. A slow ball outside off, hit towards point. Jadeja runs in, picks up and throws the stumps down at the bowler's end. Mumbai are nine down. The ball deflected away to the boundary so if Bumrah was in, that would have been four runs. Bumrah is well short.
shortish delivery, slow on off and middle. Pulled to square leg. Another nothing delivery. In the slot for another big hit
oh no, you just do not. DO NOT bowl length. Full and straight from Irfan, in the slot. Right in the slot. Krunal nails a lofted drive and straight. Straight for six. Amazing area to hit the ball.
Last over. Krunal is on strike. Who'll bow? It's Irfan.
and gone. Direct hit. Run out. Mumbai are eight down. They may be all out. Thampi chooses a straight and full delivery. McClenaghan gets low and paddles to fine leg who was very square. It almost carries, Irfan goes for the catch. The ball falls short. He somehow manages to keep it in the field of play. He knows he still has work to do so he gets up and throws the ball back in, it hits the stumps direct at the batsman's end as McClenghan tries to sprawl in. A direct hit. Two direct hits. He did superbly well to prevent the boundary. Amazing work
McClenaghan. The best result a wide yorker. Third man needs to be fine for the outside edge
not quite the yorker but it's full, it's straight, there is some reverse swing too. Quick and accurate. Harbhajan misses a straight one and the ball raps him in front of leg. Plumb in front. Good call umpire Chaudhary. That was quite predictable but Harbhajan done in by that reverse swing
Thampi will look for the yorker, can't miss his length
A message comes out for Krunal. The umpire intervenes.
a slower ball outside off, hammered to cover. Faulkner picks up and hits the stumps at the bowler's end. The ball ricochets towards him, but he is aware to get to the ball.
Who is going to bowl the last over? If we get there
full and wide outside off, Krunal leans into a drive and finds a gap wide of cover. McCullum gets across, two more
Keep going I say. Two boundaries is all they need, they have 10 balls. Have to connect with two
full and wide, inside the tramline though. Krunal was looking for one to third man. No bat.
Harbhajan
this is not one of them. Looks for it, but doesn't get enough behind the ball. Hardik got across, looking for a hit down the ground, straight preferably. But the ball is on the legs which takes him aback. He tries to generate enough power through the stroke but his heave finds deep midwicket. He almost premeditated a big, straight hit. That ball was there for the picking through the leg side if he played it by merit
A couple of big hits and this game is done.
just wide of midwicket. Four more. Huge ball. Huge event. Full and straight from Faulkner, Krunal lifts the ball but can't quite time it well. His bottom hand takes it wide of long-on. McCullum almost gets there, but doesn't. Lands short of the boundary
finds the gap. Short of a length on middle, hit wide of long-on for a couple. Good captaincy from Raina too, he had moved himself to square leg. Pushed mdiwicket back.
another slower ball outside off, bunted away to the sweeper cover
there it is. Would have gone straight to a man at the edge of the circle. Full on off, Krunal heaves but the ball skews off the inside edge. Goes over Raina's head at midwicket, he sticks his hand up but can't hold on. It's another drop but a great effort
Fielders may want to move towards the edge of the circle, a big shot coming
short outside off, pulled to midwicket. Raina has learnt from his mistake and chooses not to throw.
122 kph, slower ball outside off, carved to the sweeper cover
24 off 18, many IPL matches lost from better positions. Lions don't have Tye though, their end-overs specialist
looking for the yorker again. A low full toss, pushed up to long-on. Decent over.
a slower ball outside off, guided to slip who parries the ball away
