cleans him up! Maiden ODI wicket for O'Rourke and NZ win the first ODI by 44 runs (DLS)! Sizzling yorker on off stump and it has the beating of Mahmud. He has a mow at it but gets nowhere close to the ball. Sneaks under the bat and thunders into the stumps. O'Rourke is thrilled, as are the NZ players. They have been full value for this victory!
New Zealand vs Bangladesh, 1st ODI at Dunedin, NZ v BDESH, Dec 17 2023 - Match Result
7:40pm Right. That brings us to the end of our coverage. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we loved bringing it to you. Plenty of action going around elsewhere in the world. Australia are currently on top against Pakistan in Perth, and you can join Andrew McGlashan and Rvel Zahid as they bring to you all the action. From me, Binoy and Ranjith, it is a wrap for this game. Have a lovely Sunday folks, and take care!
7:30pm A fairly comfortable win for the Black Caps in the end. Bangladesh never really generated adequate momentum during the run-chase and while that could be put down to questionable shot-selection, the Kiwi bowlers played their part by posing tough questions. Clarkson, Milne and Sodhi picked up two apiece, with Duffy, Ravindra and O'Rourke, on debut, also among the wickets.
Coming back to Bangladesh, there were brief patches where it felt they would threaten New Zealand's score. However, those spells of optimism did not last long and they kept losing wickets at important stages. A perfect case in point was when Afif and Hridoy were going strong, only for the pair to depart in consecutive overs.
That pretty much summed up their entire game. Even with the ball, they had New Zealand in trouble at the start, only to wither away that advantage. In contrast, the Kiwis won all the crucial moments in the game, whether it was the partnership between Latham and Young, or the constant wicket-taking.
hard length on middle and leg. Mahmud is cramped for room and blocks it to backward point
nasty bouncer on off stump. Mehidy does well to fend it away into space on the leg side. The ball hit the splice
full on off stump. Mahmud pokes it towards extra cover and this time, runs like a sprinter. Might have been out with a direct hit, though
fullish on off stump. Mahmud comes half forward and prods it towards backward point. A bit of hesitation between the batters but no damage done
banged into the track outside off. Mehidy jumps up onto his toes and dabs it down to third man
O'Rourke to bowl the final over. Bangladesh need 48
slow and short outside off. Mehidy winds up and drags it down the ground to long on
off-pace and full on off stump. Mahmud clears his front leg and chips it over Latham at mid off
similarly sharp back of a length delivery. Mahmud has another poke at it and is beaten all ends up
sharp back of a length delivery on off. Nips away and squares up Mahmud completely. Too good to get a nick
through the hands! Shortish outside off. Mehidy is unsure whether he wants to slash it over backward point or play it past him. In the end, he hits it straight to Ravindra, who makes a meal of it
back of a length on off. Mahmud plonks it into the off side and Mehidy hares across to the other end
full and hung outside off, perhaps as a response to Mehidy shaping up for the scoop. Tries to manufacture a reverse lap in the end but does not get bat on ball
second six of the over! Right in the slot on middle and off. Mehidy gets his front foot out of the way, swings through the line and crunches it over mid off!
Milne is not happy with the landing area and has asked the ground staff to bring out a bucket of sawdust
off-pace and dug into the track outside off. Mehidy is too early into the stroke and cannot make any contact. Called the second bouncer of the over
four more! Short on leg stump and Mehidy capitalises again. Rocks back, gets on top of the bounce and hammers it behind square!
full on off stump. Mehidy punches it straight to the fielder at mid off
goes all the way! Slower bumper on leg stump that sits up to be hit. Mehidy waits long enough for it and heaves it over the long leg fence!
Rohit: "Crazy how he didn't touch the boundary! It looked so close too." -- Extraordinary agility, balance and exceptional core strength
slower ball on a length on off stump. Mehidy nudges it to extra cover's left and retains strike
fuller on middle and off. Mahmud gets half forward and drives with a straight bat past the bowler. Mid on, though, sprawls to his left and gets a hand to it, denying Mahmud a boundary
