Rapped on the back foot and it's given! But Ebadot reviews Pitching on a length outside off and Ebadot misses the line as he goes back to defend. It goes past the outside edge to hit him on the knee roll. And that's crashing into leg stump and Sri Lanka have won this by an innings and 78 runs, taking the series 1-0
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test at Colombo, SL vs BAN, Jun 25 2025 - Match Result
10.50am Sonal Dinusha and Lahiru Udara hold on to the trophy as Sri Lanka pose in front of the board that rightly reads 'Champions'. It's been a fine win, ending a streak of five games without victory in Tests. It means they head into their nearly year-long hiatus from Tests with a good result on the board. For Bangladesh, a series that started so brightly, ends in a familiar feeling of disappointment. But that's all the action from this series. Here's Madushka's report to recap SL's win. It's been a lot of fun. Thank you for joining me, Madushka, Vairavan, Sudeep and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo. Join us again for the white-ball series between these two teams. Goodbye!
10.40am Time for the presentation ceremony.
Dhananjaya de Silva: "There was a difference between two matches. Bowlers and batters did well in the first innings here. Bowlers had their plans and executed well. That's a good morale booster for us, losing the toss and putting the opposition under pressure. Of course [Dinusha] has the ability to get some breakthroughs. [Young players] It's a very good sign when you have a strong bench putting pressure on the playing XI, that's the team I wanted. [On Nissanka] He's been performing in all three formats for a long time and I think he will continue to do that."
Najmul Hossain Shanto: "Very disappointing after how we finished the first Test, the way this one went. Way we batted in the first innings wasn't up to the mark. We had opportunities but we couldn't make those things. I still feel we should have batted first. The wicket is a little slower but the way we got out was not good enough. We always took easy options and made mistakes while batting. I think the way we bowled on Day 3 really nice to see in these kind of conditions."
Pathu, Nissanka is the Player of the Match. And the Player of the Series! Pathum said he is happy to have done well at home for the first time and he gave it his all, and spoke about the difference in pitches in Galle and Colombo.
Stay with us, we'll bring you quotes from the presentation soon...
Mayukha: "When was the last time SL won a test by an innings? " -- Their last win, against New Zealand in Galle. They played five Tests in between, losing four of those.
And Shubham Agarwal informs me of this stat -- Most innings victories for SL:
vs Bangladesh: 9*
vs Zimbabwe: 5
10.32am Well, it's barely taken half an hour today for Prabath Jayasuriya to complete his five-for and Tharindu Ratnayake to add the finishing touches to another commanding victory. Nine wickets between the spinners this innings, with DDS taking a couple yesterday.
Sri Lanka lost the toss, but bowled well and Bangladesh folded cheaply. Then, Sri Lanka put on a masterful batting display, led by Pathum Nissanka and Dinesh Chandimal. Kusal Mendis' charge on Day 3 all but ensured the hosts wouldn't have to bat again, and their spinners completed the job. A big game for Prabath Jayasuriya, who was indifferent in Galle. A fighting allround performance from Taijul Islam goes in vain, but I am sure it won't be forgotten by those who watched.
Akindu: "Huge confidence booster for Srilanka starting the WTC cycle, after a lean run toward the end of the previous one. Very unfortunate that the team cant continue the momentum this year, but instead have to wait till next year. Which means we wont see the team in whites till next year as well :("
NOOBIE: "Prabath is back with a banggggggggggggggggggggggggg..............................."
Now, that's a shot! Tossed up full outside off and Ebadot gets his front foot forward and launches it down the ground! With mid-off up, this was a safe shot and he nails it
No. 11 Nahid Rana will start off at the non-striker's end
And that's the five-for for Prabath Jayasuriya! Taijul chips it back to the bowler for an easy return catch and Jayasuriya will be delighted with his returns in this innings! This is full outside off and Taijul skips out and wants to work this leg side. Closes the bat face early and the leading edge does him in. Sri Lanka just one wicket away now!
Full outside off, Taijul goes across to sweep but misses
Full outside off, this one goes with the angle and goes fine on the off side off the outside edge, allowing him to run two
On a length outside off and spinning in, Taijul stays back and defends
Full outside off and spinning in, Taijul defends
Floated full, pushed out to the off side
Akindu: "Good to see yesterdays injury isnt affecting kusals keeping. Hes vital to srilankas white ball games as well"
Full on a fourth-stump line, it spins it to take the inside edge as Ebadot prods forward in defence
Full outside off, spinning in, Ebadot keeps it out
Tharindu will bowl right-arm over to Ebadot
Now Taijul drives this full ball out through cover for a single
Full outside off again, Taijul presses across to defend
Tossed up on off, Taijul defends
Full outside off, fended to the off side
Now Tharindu goes for right-arm spin
Tossed up on the stumps, Ebadot defends on the front foot
Tossed up full on middle, Ebadot squirts it out through square leg and picks up a couple
Tossed up full around off, Ebadot manages to negotiate it safely
Thanks Madushka. Where does this one rank on your list of shortest commentary stints? Anyway, Jayasuriya, who had never taken more than two in an innings against Bangladesh is staring at a five-for to announce his return to form! Ebadot the new batter
On that note, I need to go prep for the report. Here's Abhimanyu to take you through the rest of this game.
Kusal with some more fine work behind the stumps and Sri Lanka have their eighth! This was tossed up from around the wicket, drawing Nayeem forward on the drive. It turns past the outside edge, and Kusal has the bails off in a flash. Nayeem has dragged his back foot out of the crease, and he's just not quick enough in bringing it back
good length on off, worked to mid-on for a quick single
Skips down and looks to loft this down the ground, ends up slicing this over mid-off. Has just about got enough bat on this to clear the man
