Shanto finishes it in style, into the embankment! The crowd chases the ball as fireworks are set off in the background. This was on the pads and Shanto picks it up over deep backward square leg. He gets to his fifty as well as Bangladesh level the series 1-1!
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 2nd T20I at Sylhet, BAN v SL, Mar 06 2024 - Match Result
Bangladesh won by 8 wickets (with 11 balls remaining)
On that note it's a wrap from us. The series decider is on Saturday, and make a note that it's a different start time. The game will begin earlier at 3pm local time, which will also mean the impact of dew will likely be much less. Until then though, on behalf of Fidel and Chandan, this is Madushka signing off. Good night!
Najmul Hossain Shanto is named Player of the Match for his 38-ball 53: "I think it shows a lot of character [the way we came back] and how we bowled in these conditions. Really happy with the way we bowled. I'm not giving any bowler's particular credit, they all bowled really well. Shoriful bowled well during the BPL as well, so he's found his form and I'm happy for him. [batters?] I think Litton and Soumya started very well, and later on Hridoy batted really well. What I felt was it was a proper team game. [You needed runs?] Obviously as batsman you want to score every match. Hopefully I'll continue my form."
Charith Asalanka: "Firstly we were short about 20-25 runs, and then Kamindu's run out also played a huge part in the game. As a batsman we have to make big runs, especially in these conditions. Because it's very hard for the bowlers to bowl in these conditions. [Angelo Mathews chipped in?] Yes that's why he's in the side, he's a veteran now and he delivers for the team. [Bangladesh?] Credit goes to their batsman, especially Shanto, and Hridoy and Litton. They batted well."
Time for the post-match presentation
9.30pm So having come so very close two nights back, Bangladesh hit back in comprehensive fashion to set up a series decider on Friday. Shanto and Hridoy saw the chase through with 11 balls and 8 wickets to spare, and while Sri Lanka might have a legitimate grievance about Soumya's nick behind being unexpectedly overturned, Bangladesh were good value for their win. While Shanto got a fifty and each of Bangladesh's top four contributed well, it was their bowlers that did the damage, restricting Sri Lanka with some accurate and effective bowling - particularly at the death.
Bangladesh just two away now
Pummelled! This was short of a length on off, and Hridoy just stands in place and wallops this high over deep midwicket
another one fired in on the pads on a good length. Misses the pull, but the run the leg bye
Excellent keeping! Theekshana fires it down leg, and Kusal does very well to grab this
tossed up on the stumps, eased to long-on
Looks like there's going to be a change in ball. The current one is deemed to soggy to persevere with.
tossed up outside off, driven to wide long-off
good length on the stumps, gets on one knee and picks this sweep on the bounce to deep backward square leg
good length on off, back foot punch down to long-on
Banshee: "Srilanka has given away 21 extras compared to Bangladesh's 5. "
Marsh: "The difference between two teams lies with number of extras."
good length outside off, cut straight to backward point
short, hops up and swats this down towards wide mid-on for one
Short on off, pulled hard to deep midwicket
Short again, pulled to the man just installed at deep midwicket
Now over deep midwicket! Another slower one, and Shanto just pummels this pull!
Loosener put away! This was short and slow outside off. It sits up and Shanto just clobbers this in front of deep point
Here's Shanaka belatedly
Banshee: "Bangladesh has made a radical improvement in two areas they were quite poor in the first match - death over bowling and top order batting."
Shanto makes room down leg and Mathews follows him. Clipped to deep midwicket for one
good length outside off, chopped into the covers
Mathews will complete the over as Pathirana hobbles off.
Oh dear, Pathirana is holding his left leg. Looks like his hamstring. Don't think he's going to complete this over.
full on the stumps, nudged to square leg for one
good length on off, pushed to the left of mid-off for a single
good length outside off, pushed into the covers for one
short outside off, gets over this well and drags this down to long-on
