10.14 pm And so completes the largest margin of victory in BBL history. The Sixers hold the top two now after the previous highest total of a 145-run win made by Sixers over Renegades last year. Stars have lost this match by 152 runs. One Melbourne franchise replaces the other on the wrong side of BBL history.

Josh Philippe is the Player of the Match: "It was just a great performance by all the boys. Me and Vinny started beautifully and then Moises finished it off. Everyone chips in. A couple of 50s and lots of guys taking wickets. It's our home ground so we're very familiar with conditions and it's a great way to start."

Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell: "I thought the way that Brody Couch and Sam Elliott found their way through the back end overs, they fought their way back against some experienced players. I thought Syed bowled pretty well but they had some batters who counterattacked. I was disappointed with the batters. I didn't bowl one off spinner tonight. I just bowled knuckle balls and a little inswinger to keep it away from that shorter side. We're hoping to have Stoinis next game and Coulter-Nile coming back. Qais Ahmad is coming in. Hopefully Joe Burns is coming in next Monday as well."

Sixers captain Moises Henriques: "It was a nice start wasn't it. The two openers got us off to a nice start and we never took the foot off after it. I was made aware [of Hayden Kerr being on a hat-trick] but I thought a five-for for SOK was more important. Hayden's got plenty of years left to get a hat-trick. I thought when bowlers hit the wicket hard, it was quite hard to it. I think the height, pace and bounce with our experienced bowlers, as we saw from Sean Abbott tonight, I thought his first two overs were fantastic. It's always nice to have people get their confidence early in the competition rather than having to chase your tail. We've got a terrific team with a lot of big names on the list but names on the list don't win you games."

That's it from us tonight. For Alex Malcolm and the scoring team, I'm Peter Della Penna. Come back tomorrow for more BBL action. Take care!

W
Tom Curran to Couch, OUT

slower ball skied over point ends the match. Couch way out in front of this delivery and skies this over the ring. Simple catch. Game over. Kerr denied an opportunity at completing a hat-trick in a game where the result was never in doubt!

Brody Couch c Christian b Curran 8 (10b 1x4 0x6 14m) SR: 80

Tom Curran now on to bowl his second. Hayden Kerr's hat-trick ball will not happen.

Kerr remains conspicuously on a hat-trick ball that is yet to be bowled....

1
O'Keefe to Couch, 1 run

low full toss flicked to deep midwicket for one.

10.5
O'Keefe to Couch, no run

darts this in flat and quick on fifth stump, Couch mistimes a heave back to O'Keefe.

1
O'Keefe to Syed Faridoun, 1 run

full and wide, slaps this into the covers.

10.3
O'Keefe to Syed Faridoun, no run

flighted again on the pads, goes to slog and misses off the pads.

10.2
O'Keefe to Syed Faridoun, no run

good length ball on middle, misses a flick across the line.

So the Renegades lowest total in BBL history remains. They're still open for largest margin of defeat though...

O'Keefe to Syed Faridoun, FOUR runs

full and wide, driven off a toe edge past third man in the ring to the rope.

Drinks break in Sydney. Again, two ignominious records the Stars are trying to avoid here could fall together. Lowest BBL total (57) and widest margin of defeat (145 runs) which are both currently held by the Melbourne Renegades. Maybe the Stars want to let the Sixers get past both to ensure their cross-city rivals remain in the record books.

9.6
Jordan to Couch, no run

another bouncer ducked under by Couch to end the over.

9.5
Jordan to Couch, no run

good length ball, can't get this away.

9.4
2
Jordan to Couch, 2 runs

short and wide, slaps this hard behind point, diving stop by the sweeper Vince to turn four into two.

The current record low total in BBL history is 57 made by Renegades in 2015.

9.3
Jordan to Couch, no run

slower ball outside off, waves at this.

9.2
Jordan to Couch, no run

bouncer over middle stump, ducked under at 130 kph.

9.1
4
Jordan to Couch, FOUR runs

full and wide, driven through the covers for a rare boundary in this innings to balance out all the wickets.

Current record margin of defeat in BBL is 145 runs by Sixers over Renegades last year when Sixers made their previous franchise best of 205. Here's Chris Jordan back into the attack, around the wicket.

Umanga: "First game of the season and sixers all over the stars and looking the team to beat..as for the stars loosing heavily means dent in net run rate and they will be behind already for the upcoming matches."

1
O'Keefe to Couch, 1 run

flighted full and wide, slogs this into the ground through midwicket for one.

8.5
1
O'Keefe to Syed Faridoun, 1 run

good length ball on off, prods forward, inside edge into the leg side for a single.

Leg slip joins slip for the hat-trick ball.

Can O'Keefe claim five and a hat-trick at once? Faridoun to face the hat-trick ball on BBL debut. The crowd starts to clap.

8.4
W
O'Keefe to Zampa, OUT

another charge from Zampa. Another wicket for O'Keefe. Zampa telegraphed this too early and O'Keefe reacts by dragging this delivery wide outside off. Easy stumping for Philippe with Zampa making no effort to get back in after a flail in vain.

Adam Zampa st †Philippe b O'Keefe 1 (3b 0x4 0x6 7m) SR: 33.33

W
O'Keefe to Elliott, OUT

charges a flighted ball on off, doesn't get to the pitch and skies this toward Abbott at cow corner. Could easily have dropped this on purpose in search of his own five-for but decides not to play a practical joke on O'Keefe and pouches it easily 15 yards inside the rope.

Sam Elliott c Abbott b O'Keefe 2 (7b 0x4 0x6 10m) SR: 28.57
8.2
O'Keefe to Elliott, no run

flighted more on fifth stump, goes to dab this to third man but under edges this into the ground.

8.1
O'Keefe to Elliott, no run

good length ball, can't get it away.

Cheers. Here's SOK to continue, trying to beat Abbott to a five-for.
