Full ball is pumped over the bowler. Hurricanes chase 183 with an over to spare to pick up their first points. Ball was wide and Anderson got on one knee, smeared it. Too straight for mid-on
Renegades vs Hurricanes, 13th Match at Hobart, BBL 2023, Dec 23 2023 - Match Result
Hurricanes won by 6 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)
Matthew Wade and Wright's 140-run partnership is HH's highest for the 2nd wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 132 between D'Arcy Short and Caleb Jewell
Just two winless teams now, coincidentally it is both teams that lost today. Hurricanes are off the mark, they seem like a well-planned side and will hope this win will turn things around after the early losses. Renegades will have to wait on Finch's fitness and work on their game to turn things around. You can find out how they go here on ESPNcricinfo, where you'll get all the live coverage, news and updates. Thanks for tuning in, I'm Ekanth, signing off on behalf of our scorers, M Venkat Raghav and Ranjith P, for now.
Matthew Wade, POTM: I had a hit this morning, did at flight in Perth. Thankfully it came up today. Wicket has been good, it's back at the best tonight. They swung the ball early but we got full value for the shots. The pitch gets a sheen on it, the spinners get less effective. With the shorter boundary, it turns it into a good chasing ground. I thought I can push the Surge later, when Zampa and Mujeeb come in but I saw Rogers, it was a late call but we took it. (On the over-rate penalty) I heard Nathan asking the ump when we ran past him. He said 60 seconds till we had to bowl our first ball and we thought there won't be qualms. We went with five out not knowing that. We thought we'd bowled within time, we obviously hadn't. It was an early communication from the umpires and then there was radio silence out there. Obviously, Sutho saw we had just run out of time, on the [score]board. Thankfully, we won and not be on the wrong side of it. Nice to get the first win, we don't have the luxury of playing 14 games this year. Gotta get going early. To get a win getting into Christmas is nice, hope to enjoy the next couple of days.
10:40pm Hurricanes were able to go big in the middle overs with the bat and Renegades couldn't. That feels like the defining factor in this match. The pitch was a belter, Matty Wade and Mac Wright took full advantage of it. Wade was on top of his game from the start. Wright got in his groove after a while. They ensured the early wicket (Jewell was out plumb lbw in the first over after missing the paddle sweep) didn't affect the fireworks production at the Blundstone arena. A couple of noteworthy hits from Wade - a lofted on-drive after dancing down to a pacer and finishing with a glorious follow-through and a slog over long-on, almost like a left-handed Dhoni from the '11 final. Not much to write home about for the bowlers, Zampa and Rogers showed promise but everyone was taken apart. Hurricanes should've got home early, but they got there without too much of a fuss in the end.
Anderson has a chance to finish the game. Ring field in
Bernie: "Thw women bowled 97 overs in the Test today" Yeah, it was 100 yesterday iirc
Low fully at the boot, worked along the ground to long-on. Scores tied
Dragged across to effectively clear the game. Wide ball on a length, David went back in the crease and swiped across, was a mix of a sweep and a pull. Sailed flat and far
This time it's too wide outside off. David went across, reached far and tried to slash the full ball. It was well outside the tramline and beat the bat
Two dots in a row.
It's stumps in the Women's Test by the way, against Australia and India. Australia lead by 46 with five wickets in hand
Low full toss outside off is skewed to cover
Bumper hits David on the helmet, ball's caught at point. Appeal denied by the ump. Gades review. There will be a concussion test in the meanwhile. Was a very short ball, pace on, over off. David was square on as he tried to wallop it, bat went from low to high. 'The ball is well away from the gloves', says the third umpire, it hit him on the right temple and popped away. Not out. David's physically okay too
David goes across and slogs. Doesn't middle it but gets it in the gap just behind square. Races along the ground
Sutherland to bowl the penultimate over
Skier, Rogers settles at square leg and takes it! Is the unlikeliest of twists coming? Hain went across early, swiped right across the line. He couldn't cope with the slight extra bounce. It was in the air for a while, Rogers moved to forward square and took it well. Asking rate over six after a little while
David was well across before the delivery, gets a length ball outside off. In his arc, went for a hoick but mistimes it. It rolls to deep midwicket
Wide on a length, square driven straight to point
Surprise wide bouncer from Kane. David is late on the upper cut and gets beaten
Length outside off, driven on the top of the bounce to deep cover
Slight back of length outside off, defensive pat takes it to cover
Five an over needed off the last three overs. Hobart not able to get a big win and an NRR push, at least not as easily as it seemed a little while earlier
Yes he can, Wade holes out to long-on! That was a slot ball at the stumps, Wade drove through the line. Got a good chunk on it but not enough. Fielder came in and took a dolly. Wade raises his bat, waves to the crowd to acknowledge the cheers.
Can Rogers close out what has been an excellent over so far?
Shortish ball outside off, cuts it late. Finds deep third
Bouncer over off, Hain moved across to get inside the line, tried to pull it well behind square. Missed it, got it off the wrist to deep third
Better from Rogers, very low full toss around seventh. Goes across, leans forward and pushes it to cover does Wade
The cut was on but Wade misses out. Length around sixth, got extra bounce. Wade tried to go over cover, and got beaten
Shortish ball just over the waist, helped along to deep square leg
saravanan: "I can sense MR supporters will expect some twist now but twist ended in 1st over itself"
"That's so bad," goes Wade. He went across early for a paddle, got a length ball well outside off and decided to adjust. Ends up spooning it indecisively in front and to the bowler
