Webster brings up a half-century but Hurricanes end their season with a win. Was on a length on off, he backs away and cranks it over long off
Hurricanes vs Stars, 38th Match at Melbourne, BBL 2023, Jan 15 2024 - Match Result
That's that for these two teams then for this season, with Hurricanes finishing on a high. Thanks for tuning in tonight, we'll be back tomorrow with Perth Scorchers taking on Sydney Sixers. Till then, on behalf of Ekanth and Ranjith, this is me Ashish Pant signing off.
Nathan Ellis: Been very hit and miss with my batting, so good to get a few boundaries away. We stayed in the fight throughout. It was a good wicket, and the boys stayed in the middle. I asked them to put in a great performance and they put their hands up. Really good team, so disappointed we didn't go into the final four. I feel really frustrated because I know how good a team we can be. There were moments in the season that had we executed better, we could have been fighting for the trophy. [On his rib injury] I was a little sore when I was bowling, and sore when I yelled, and I did a lot of yelling. I was able to bowl so I should be fine.
10.49pm Hurricanes climb to fifth position on the points table, but that won't amount to much as they are out of the finals race. Both Hurricanes and Stars had their moments in the season but failed to make it to the final four. The 188-chase was never going to be easy. Glenn Maxwell hammered 32 off 18 but Beau Webster failed to get things going. Marcus Stoinis also scored a quick 32-ball 48 but Hurricanes bowlers held their nerves. Nathan Ellis picked two wickets and he is the player of the match.
Huge swing and a miss. Flatter as the batter backs away and Hatzoglou follows him. He can't lay a bat on the swing
14 off 2
Can't get under that. Was flatter outside off, he looks to go big again, drags it to deep midwicket
There's one! Was quicker on leg stump, he backs away and slogs it over deep midwicket for a huge six
They need sixes, four will do.
On a length on middle and leg, swiped away to deep backward square leg for a brace
Slower length ball on middle, he looks to slog it away, just doesn't get the connection. Only a run there
Righto! Only four out in the last over as Hurricanes haven't completed their overs in time. They need 24 off six balls. Hatzoglou to bowl the last over
Low full toss just outside off, he gets it off the cue end of the bat to wide long-on. Ellis after the two wides has really come back strongly.
Fuller outside off, he can only miscue to extra cover. Only a run
Again outside his hitting arc. Was on a length and well outside off. He can only crack it to long off
Nah, he can't. Was a fuller wide ball well outside off. He drags it to long on
Webster really the one who has to take full toll of these last four ball
Nails his yorker on off stump, he can only dig it to deep midwicket.
Big swipe and a miss! On a length just outside off, he looks to hack it away, can't lay a bat on it
And again. Fuller and well outside off, was outside the tramline again
Yorker outside off, but that is well outside the tramline
Nathan Ellis with the ball in hand. Only two minutes left on the timer. Stars need 32 off two
saravanan : "Three dots in power surge was crucial and decided the match."
Excellent over from Jordan. Fuller-length ball outside off, he can only pump it to long off
Hayes: "Imagine the tension if the Strikers lost last night?"
David holds on and Stoinis has to depart. Jordan is turning the game in Hurricanes' favour. Low full toss as Stoinis looks to shuffle in his crease. Was looking to find the gap but can only flick it as far as deep midwicket who take a good catch running in
This one is fuller down leg again, Webster flicks but straight to deep backward square leg.
Another lovely yorker on leg stump, can only be turned away to deep backward square leg
Low full toss on the pads of Webster who clips it to deep backward square leg only for a run again
Yorker on off stump, he digs it to long off
This is going down to the wire. Stars need 37 off 18. Make or break over this. Jordan to bowl out. Around the wicket
