The Guyana Amazon Warriors have begun their home leg with a statement win in front of their home crowd! Low full toss ball wide outside off, Motie opens the face of the bat keeping his calm and composure, lofted it gently wide of the mid-off fielder and completes the single.

Amazon won by 3 wickets (with 1 ball remaining)
Phew! Another game down to the wire in the CPL, another nail-biting finish that truly proves this is the biggest party in sport! Thank you all for joining us today! We hope to see you back tomorrow for the doubleheader games. Until then, this is Rashad Mahbub, pulling the curtains down on the commentary on behalf of Thilak Ramamurthy. Cheers!
Imran Tahir: "It was a really exciting game. I think we bowled really well, and the last four overs didn't go as ideally for us. But Kieron Pollard is the only one who can do that, so we have to appreciate it. We always knew that 160 was a good total if we had a good Powerplay. We lost two early wickets, and there was a bit of panic, but I'm glad that Shai Hope has always been our main guy, and the way Shimron Hetmyer and he played today set an example for the youngsters. [Ben McDermott's Injury] I think he's fine. When he dived, he just got a little bit of a strain. We are hoping that he'll be fine tomorrow. [Home crowd] I said that before the game. We always appreciate the crowd who make the effort to come to every game and support us. So I'm really grateful to every Guyanese, wherever they are. This win is purely for them. We are trying to play a brand of cricket that we've been playing in previous years and this year as well, especially after the start we had here. [On Pretorius' Performance] He's been in good form with the bat, and he's been bowling really well in the last two games. I am really pleased that he's getting into the habit of finishing games, and I hope that he carries on in the future as well."
Nicholas Pooran: "It was a brilliant game of cricket. Credit must be given to Guyana; they bowled really well in the Powerplay. But losing two wickets in the Powerplay was a little tough for us. The conditions are suitable for bowling, but I think the partnership between Kacey Carty and Dwayne Bravo was outstanding. The way Kieron Pollard came and finished gave us some hope at the end. I think 168 was a really good score on this pitch. Going into the halfway mark, we were really happy to defend this, but I felt like we disappointed ourselves in the Powerplay. We got two easy overs, but then we let ourselves down, which brought us back into the game. I'm really happy that the guys fought to the end, which is the biggest thing for me, because we're going to be coming back here again. We're going to take all the positives from this game and take it to Barbados. We'll be looking to correct a few things for us there. As a group, we understand that we're not going to win every single game, and it's not going to be easy. We're looking forward to that Barbados leg. [Mohammad Amir] We believe he should be fine, and we are looking forward to his return."
Player of the match, Dwaine Petorius: "I love playing for this franchise. The crowd came out again tonight, and I'm really glad we could get this win, as it makes our road forward a bit easier. It's always great to be playing against TKR, as they are a really strong side, so I'm happy about that performance. I'm trying to stay calm. I think Shai Hope's innings was unbelievable. It's always tough in these conditions, and we know it gets easier in the back end. He played really well. Moeen Ali bowled awesomely today, and overall, I think it was a great team performance. [Last over] Pollard was making me wait, so I thought, let him wait as well, and I tried to get something back [laughter]. TKR is a really strong team, and we know they have a lot of experience. Kieron Pollard came in today and played a great knock, but we pushed them hard today, and we'll see where we see them again."
11:00 pm A third new opening batting pair for the Warriors, Paul and Moeen Ali, backfired straight away as Ali gifted his wicket away in the third ball of the first over. Hosein picked up the wicket of the other opener too, as Paul got trapped in front while attempting a reverse sweep. Shai Hope started the counterattack with back-to-back sixes and a boundary against Russell. Hetmyer joined the party, striking a few big sixes, but he was dropped by Carty in the fifth over, a chance that proved costly. However, he was eventually caught by the same fielder at deep backward square leg after scoring 49 runs off 30 balls. After Hetmyer's dismissal, the run rate decreased as boundaries dried up. Hope, who was struggling with dot balls, also got trapped in front for 53 runs off 46 balls, and the required rate jumped from 7 to 11 runs per over. But with lots of twists and turns, Pretorius turned the game around, hitting two sixes off Russell's 18th over. In the end, Pretorius and Motie managed to take their team over the line, holding their nerves and fighting until the end. Hosein and Narine picked up two wickets each, and the Knight Riders' spin trio were brilliant, but the seamers didn't give them proper support to defend the total. With today's win, the Guyana Amazon Warriors are now well in contention for a spot in the top two of the points table.
