oh middle-and-leg, Powell lunges forward once more!
West Indies vs England, 3rd Test at St John's, Feb 15 2009 - Match Result
England threw absolutely everything at West Indies, yet as the ground filled with Antiguans, and the light began to fade, Powell - who has attracted loads of criticism for his batting in the past year - and Edwards blocked, smothered and defended their way to safety. England will doubtless be gutted yet have controlled most of this Test - some achievement given the shambles of Kingston and 51-all-out. And they could yet fight back to win the series: we still have two to play, remember. Well, it's been an exhausting but enthralling week and we hope you've enjoyed our coverage. Do keep an eye on the bulletin, which will shortly be complete, and do join us for the fourth Test in Barbados next Thursday. From Will Luke and Andrew Miller, it's goodnight.
And the umpires come to talk once more. Here comes the light meter! Everyone's favourite meter. They're offering the light - and they take it! That's it, it's all over, red rover, for England. What an incredible last session that was. A brilliant, tense and enthralling climax and how fitting for it to have been played at the old Rec, a ground brought back to life.
on the off stump, Powell's forward and blocks
He's off the field. Bell replaces. This is war
a full toss which is absolutely hammered into Pietersen. He's down. Is he out? He looks in huge pain...looks like he's bust a finger I'm afraid.
quicker ball - the arm ball? - but it's kept out
West Indian fans are cheering every ball
comes forward once more to smother this
keeps really low! Powell crouches into the most ugly of defensives, but it works! Who cares, it works
Another over. England are looking pretty dejected now...
very well bowled! Much quicker but he keeps it out
quicker ball but Edwards is back in line
No major spin for Pietersen. In fact...none at all
good ball but Edwards deals with it
nudged to leg - and they take a single!
comes forward to defend
The batsmen have a chat. The Barmies hate it and are booing! Great fun
very full, safely coped with
Umpires are chatting about the light with Strauss. No more pace allowed. Pietersen, therefore, is into the attack. I think he might self-combust if he gets a wicket
lovely delivery, best of the over, but he plays it with soft hands. Top batting!
Okay, the light really is fading fast now
slightly more open stance but again he is confident and solid in defence
defended solidly to silly point
tossed above his eyeline, dig out by the batsman
back of a length, spinning back into Edwards who plays it off the back foot
turns back into Edwards who is forward and smothering
Swann's going around the wicket
incredibly close! Reverse swing back into the right hander who prods forward a little cluelessly, but it misses his inside edge
Strauss looks like he needs a beta blocker. I could do with a couple.
too wide, way too wide
