IND Women vs WI Women, 1st Match, Group A at Mumbai, Jan 31 2013 - Match Result
So India make a winning start to the tournament, but we know that West Indies are going to be the ones to watch. Abhishek Purohit's match report is being updated as i write. Thanks for all your comments and feedback, this is Devashish Fuloria signing off. Ciao ciao.
Presentation:
Merissa Aguillera: "India batted well, they really took charge. We didn't really get any partnership going. We have good batting ability so the target was in our reach. Dottin played extremely will, but she needed to stick longer."
Mithali Raj: "It was a good way to start the tournament. The openers gave us the ideal start, specially Thirush Kamini and Poonam Raut played really well. The opening bowlers then gave us the ideal start too. We have worked really well and we have a very good combination of players for all situations. But sometimes you feel even 284 is not enough, specially when Dottin was going strong."
Thirush Kamini is the player of the match for her maiden hundred: "I am more happy to win the game. It was a good pitch to bat on. Me and Poonam, we play a lot together and that helps"
India open their account with a big 105-run win over West Indies. It was a thorough bowling effort from the home team and apart from during a blinding attack from Deandra Dottin, they didn't really challenge the score at any point. Jhulan Goswami bowled a miserly spell, but Niranjana picked up three key wickets. Lots of stars in India's win - there was Thirush Kamini's hundred earlier, Jhulan and Harmanpreet's batting, and then some very solid bowling backed up by good fielding. But if you ask me, I was blown away by one innings today, that of Dottin. The attack was so severe in its ferocity that it took everyone by surprise. Luckily, we will get to see more of her during the tournament.
Chelsea: "Dottin should be given the WOM(woman of the match) award for sheer entertainment of scoring 39 runs in 16 balls and taking 3 wickets in 24 balls even if WI lose."
stogy: "A lot can be said about how much people love cricket by who they choose to watch playing (regardless of whether on TV or live). True cricket fans will appreciate good cricket irrespective of whether it is women or men playing and from whatever country they come from. Oh, and of course, you have to love the 5-day game the best!"
