In the end, a very comfortable win for Pakistan. Now, if Shoaib Malik can find his form with the bat, they would get even more threatening. Afridi spent some time in the middle and looked good for his 24. The puzzles are slowly falling in place.

Salim: "Shades of '92 - Crap to start with but great winners in the END.." Several Pakistan fans have written in with similar sentiment. Time will tell.

Porterfield: "We are going to take a lot out of this World Cup. Yes, the Irish cricket is going from strength to strength."

Younis Khan: "I still believe that we were short by 15 runs. But they did bowl well in the end. Today, the fielding was good, we had some partnerships and we had our spinners and Umer Gul."

Man of the match Akmal : "I love this pitch, which is good for batting.:" Asked whether Pakistan can win the Cup, Akmal says, "Definitely, Inshallah."

On that note, this is Sriram Veera, signing off. Thanks for joining. Will luke will take over the commentary for the West Indies v England game. Alvida!

Pakistan win by 39 runs. The last ball, a really full delivery, has been squeezed out to point.

Warren: "Or the strong winds could be the Gayle coming from the West Indies."

fullish, on the middle and leg stump line, nudged to midwicket for a single. Gul ends another fine spell. What a tournament he is having. He has 12, Ajmal has 11.

Umar Gul to Rankin, 2 runs

Gul slips in the slower one and it's hit really high in the air as he got too much under the ball and it lands safely in deep wide midwicket region

Strong wind blowing now and it has knocked out Rudi's hat off. Really windy now.

Umar Gul to McCallan, OUT

And West is run out now. It was pushed towards the off stump and there was confusion between the two batsmen. Yes and then no, from the striker. Too late for West to get back in time. Gul had picked the ball and fired in a direct hit at the non-striker's end

ooh , the yorker on the base of the off stump, West does well to steer it to third man.

The end is nigh. Gul shoves Ireland towards the end. The Gul Yorker has taken out the off stump. White , looking for the big hit, didn't have a chance against that. Not quite at the blockhole but it would do the job.

Ajmal to Cusack, OUT

Another stumping by Akmal. Rudi doesn't even refer this upstairs, gives the batsman slow death from square leg. The doosra broke past the airy swing of the bat and Akmal did the rest.

Stumped. It was the top spinner and it bounced past the attempted lofted hit. Kevin O'Brien had dragged the back foot out of the crease and before he could slide it back in, Akmal had whipped the bails off.
