a bouncer down the leg side, and it's wided - that'll do for England
England vs West Indies, at London, Jun 03 2009 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Superb performance by England, winning by nine wickets. It's very rare you see England outperform their opponents so convincingly in Twenty20s, but this was a far improved effort with the bat than their sticky and mechanical performance against Scotland yesterday. Luke Wright and Ravi Bopara both excelled as openers, leaving West Indies looking rather hapless. Questions remain for them: we still don't know why Chris Gayle played, but didn't bat or captain, and all in all they've not gleaned much from this warm-up. The real matches all kick off on Friday - do join us then.
Pietersen's just shaken hands with someone, perhaps forgetting England still need a single
strong, muscular bunt down the ground for four
pulled to fine leg and Wright's back on strike
and it's a bouncer and it's very fast, and Pietersen rocks out of the way
Another man goes out for the hook. Edwards desperately wants KP here! This should be fun
short and very, very fast. Pietersen pulls but can't connect. 94mph.
Six to win. Edwards marks his run-up like a six-year-old trying to keep pace with his dad on a march
it's a full toss and again Wright goes leg-side, picking it up over midwicket for four more. He's beginning to grin inanely here - he's loving it
wellied over the top
four more! Steps outside leg, dragging it over the leg-side
stands tall, clipping it off his pads
shimmies to leg and gets a thick inside edge
full, on his legs, Pietersen taps it down the ground
Just 19 needed by England to win this warm-up
attempts another huge hit, missing it entirely
bang. He smacks it over the top and hits it so hard, that the ball reverberated off the hoardings back towards the bowler!
clipped nonchalantly to long-on
Pietersen cuts and misses. Good pace from Chanderpaul
So then. Here's Pietersen with 26 needed from 46
got him! Bopara attempts another pull for six but holes out to deep midwicket - Chanderpaul's over the moon!
This is buffet bowling. I realise it's a warm-up, but quite why Chanderpaul's bowling...
four more. Down the pitch, he heaves it over the leg side with ease
The Chanderpaul experiment continues. And he pulls out of his delivery stride at the last moment...keeping Wright on his toes as much as Bopara
he shuffles across to the off side but can't tuck it to leg
short and left alone - 91.6mph. Edwards is steaming in here
very quick, really sharp but Wright jabs down on it and somehow gets an edge past short fine leg
