just clears long-on! Just past long-on's outstretched right hand. Chahal tosses it up slow like he has all over, but this one is fuller. So Pooran steps out and meets it as a full toss. It comes off the toe-end and Morris is stretching to his right at long-on but it's past him
9:53pm And that is all from us tonight. Thanks for joining and see you tomorrow!
KL Rahul: I don't even have words. We knew that we had to scrap and get over the line once and that would give us the confidence. We're a far better side than bottom of the table. Towards the end it got too close for comfort but happy that we made it. It's very natural to feel disappointed and frustrated and it's not just me, as a group we've been frustrated. Our skills were very good, probably didn't capitalise in the big moments starting with the first game at Delhi. It's part of the IPL, it's part of cricket. There are ups and downs and this has been the kind of rollercoaster that's been crazy but on a positive note we needed this win. At the moment, my first time as captain, you kind of don't reflect on your own performance. As a leader you need to think of everybody and how to manage the 15 or the 25 balanced and hungry to do well. That's been the challenge so personal performances haven't been on my mind so much. Chris has nott been feeling well but he's always been hungry. Anyone who saw him, he was training hard like he's probably never done. It was a tough call to make not to play someone like that. I won't take credit but it's important to keep the lion hungry sometimes. Wherever he bats, he's still the same player and it worked today. Hopefully he can carry on.
KL Rahul is the Man of the Match.
C Gayle: Not really nervous. I mean, come on. It's Universe Boss batting, how can I be nervous. It was a very sticky surface, very slow, but it was better batting second. Team asked me to do a job at 3 and it wasn't an issue. Openers been batting well throughout the tournament and we didn't want to disturb that. Like I said, I was given a job and took it. All I was saying, put some respect on the name [by pointing to his bat sticker]. That's all.
V Kohli: It was quite surprising, we thought the game might finish in the 18th. A bit of pressure at the back end can confuse you, anything can happen in this game. Good performance by KXIP, we were not in the game tonight. [About AB batting at 6] We had a chat, a message from outside about left-right combination and we wanted to go with it because they had two leggies. Sometimes things don't come off. We're pretty happy with the decisions we took, but it didn't come off. Having 170 was a decent score. The idea was to let them [Dube and Sundar] to get their eye in. They bowled well. It's not a great ground for bowlers but that's not an excuse. We take pride in our bowling. tonight it didn't come off and we have to accept it and take responsibility. There's always something to learn to go back and understand. There was no conversation with Chahal to be honest. The only conversation was with the last ball, we wanted him to push it away. Credit to Nicholas.
Rama: "KL Rahul is a great cricketer. He needs to enjoy the game. He shows stress on his face. Rahul, just enjoy you have nothing to lose."
Sandip Sinharay: "Please--Ashwin for Player of the Match!"
Prasanth: "A real masterclass in closing out a game in the last five /s"
Amit : "KXIP batted like a team not used to winning"
Ramesh: "Classic example of taking an easy match too deep."
9:33pm Kings XI complete there second win of the season, and they've both come against RCB. Once again, they managed to complicate it for themselves at the end but they'd done just enough earlier in the chase. After a good bowling performance against an experimental batting order from RCB, they got off to another good start with their openers. Chirs Gayle came in for his first game of the season and found himself in quicksand for the early part of the innings. But he ended up hitting five sixes and those are the shots that turn batting innings. Punjab were assisted quite a bit by some of RCB's tactics tonight. Rahul was there at the end, possibly questioning himself about calling for the run off the penultimate ball, but it all worked out tonight. They stay bottom of the table but the gap is now closed to two points. For RCB, a chance to go second missed.
Pooran the new man. Chahal is around the wicket. Looks like long-on is the only one back. No, midwicket is back as well. So they've protecte against the big slog, everyone else is in. And Chahal pulls up in his run-up...
run-out! Gayle is walking off! Oh KXIP, how, time and again, do you make it so complex for yourselves? This is lovely bowling from Chahal, offering no pace on it and landing it short of a length outside off. Rahul punches it to cover and takes off instinctively. Gayle is not the man to complete that single at this point in his career. It's a clean pick up, it's a one-bounce throw, and it's a new batsman on strike for the last ball
just short of catching point! Slow, short of a length and turning away outside off. Cut on the bounce to the fielder lunging forward
Everyone comes into the circle now
lovely work from Padikka; at deep midwicket. This one is tossed up wide too and Gayle reaches and lofts the sweep. Padikkal has an awkward bounce to his right after running across and he does supernly to pat it in on the half-volley with one hand
loopy legbreak foxes Gayle. Whew that spun in a long way, tossed up wide and at a length and he left that alone
good length and turning into leg stump, pulled on the bounce to midwicket
Chahal to bowl the last over. Around the wicket.
low full toss on leg stump, flicked to deep midwicket
yorker outside off, jammed into the off side
full outside off, driven to extra cover
full and into the pads, can't get bat on the attempted flick
full slower ball outisde off, hangs back and lofts this to long-on's left
slower short ball, very wide outside off. Left alone
yorker outside off, beaten on the attempted chop
Udana, over the wicket
Good ball and another good day personally for Chris Morris, his RCB career has started off wonderfully.
full slower ball, dipping outside off. Jammed into the covers
good length and just outside off, chopped to backward point
Goes over the wicket
low full toss on leg stump, flicked to deep midwicket
yorker honing in at middle stump, jammed back down the pitch
good length outside off, mistimed slog along the ground to deep midwicket
full and down leg side, left alone
slower short ball at middle stump, beaten on the pull as he's through it too soon
