and another yorker to finish. The best Maharaj can do is dig it out to cover
Rocks vs Heat, 14th Match at Durban, MSL 2018, Nov 28 2018 - Match Result
10.15pm Paarl Rocks move to third in the table with a clinical 32-run DLS win in this rain-shortened T9 game. Henry Davids lead the way with the bat, cracking a 25-ball 46 as they reached 98 for 2. The total was adjusted to 113 for Durban Heat, but they lost Hashim Amla to the first ball of the innings and half their batsmen before four overs had been bowled. Paarl's bowlers kept things tight throughout, securing what could be a very important bonus point in the process.
"It was very nice," says Player of the Match Henry Davids. "There were a lot of disruptions, but everything went well after the breaks. Wanted to keep our intensity very high. We knew we had to go out and swing. Momentum is a big thing in a tournament like this. Every team needs to pitch up on the day."
"The scans I had done showed no fractures, just bone bruising," says Durban Heat captain Albie Morkel, who copped a fierce blow to the wrist in his last game. "To chase 113 in nine overs, on the night it was just too much. All credit to them, they outplayed us tonight. We're going on the road now, and play five games in the next 10 days or so. But it suits us to play back to back games now, to get into the rhythm of playing. We've got the personnel to turn it around."
"T20 cricket is about finding a little momentum, so with back to back games coming up this win was important," says Paarl Rocks captain Faf du Plessis. "You also want to show teams you can win away from home. The great thing about everyone performing is you don't rely on one or two players. Moreki bowled really well tonight. Bonus points are very, very important in tournaments like these. There are a lot of teams on similar points, so a bonus point is almost like another win."
And that's all from us tonight. From Shashank Kishore, and from me Liam Brickhill, goodbye.
superb bowling from Wiese, nipping a yorker under Philander's bat. The ball brushes the toe on the way through, and somehow misses the leg stump. A dive from Mosehle stops byes
beaten outside off! Philander was aiming for a flambuoyant drive inside out over cover, but got nothing on it
Paarl need to keep Durban to under 90 to secure a bonus point
that's a better delivery, Wiese slinging a yorker down at Maharaj's toes
slugged up and over midwicket, and it's four more! It was a slower ball, but Maharaj picked it early
Maharaj backs away, slashing a full ball behind point for four
44 to win in the final over, and the game is as good as gone. But 21 will deny Paarl the bonus point ...
Maharaj walks across to the off side this time, trying to paddle the ball to fine leg, but he can't beat the man at short fine
Maharaj backs away to leg, but Paterson follows him and beats the inside edge of his swish across the line
yorker from Paterson, right up to him, and Maharaj digs it out at the bowler
another low full toss, but it's straighter, aimed at the base of middle, and Philander chips it down the ground
much better from Paterson, landing the ball right in the blockhole. All Maharaj can do is dig it out down the ground
he aims for a yorker first ball, but it slips out as a full toss that Maharaj steps back to swat over cover. He seems to have cracked his bat in the process, and calls for a new one to be brought out
Paterson's back for his second over
slogged up and over midwicket, Big Vern getting a good connection on the shot. But it's almost definitely too little too late
chopped out to cover for one
pushed through well outside off by Shamsi, and it's called wide
Morkel cuts and feathers an edge through to the keeper, and Durban's slide continues. The ball gripped and spun away from him, taking a thin edge on the way through to Mosehle, who held the catch with no fuss. Shamsi, on the other hand, whips his boot off, dials a number on it, and accepts a phone call by way of a celebration
whipped off a middle stump line and out to midwicket
Morkel heaves, but the ball squirts off the toe end and loops tamely over midwicket
slapped out to deep extra cover for one
Over 20 an over needed now, and the best Durban Heat might hope for is to stop Paarl Rocks from securing the bonus point. For that they need 39 more runs
Moreki flings down a high full toss outside off, but it's not high enough to be a no ball nor wide enough to be called wide, though Morkel doesn't lay bat on it
