Gone! Off-cutter, low full-toss, Tahir lofts it up and over the off-side, a lot of airtime on this but not enough distance; Harry Brook runs across from deep point and takes a sensational catch sliding into the turf to make up for his fielding blip earlier
Qalandars vs Sultans, 17th Match at Lahore, PSL, Feb 11 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary
11.45 PM: That's it from ESPNcricinfo's live coverage of Match 17 of PSL 2022. Don't forget to join us back tomorrow when Islamabad United take on Quetta Gladiators. We hope you enjoyed our watch. Till next time, it's goodbye and goodnight from Momin Butt and the rest of the crew.
Shaheen Afridi: "I am enjoying my captaincy and leading my team in front of our home crowd was special tonight. We are doing well in all three facets of the game. Rashid's overs were really important for us and he bowled exceptionally well tonight. I think it's important to back up the fielders when there are slight blips and errors. It's part of the game, everyone tries to give their best. We did well in the last leg, too, and we have started well here in Lahore. We'll look to ride on this momentum."
Mohammad Rizwan: "We wanted to experiment so we chose to bowl first. The way Fakhar started and the finishing provided by Hafeez and Salt took the momentum away from us. I don't think dew was much of a worry, I just feel the Qalandars were better than us tonight and they bowled really well tonight."
Fakhar Zaman is the player of the match. "I am trying to take it ball-by-ball and take it long if I settle in. If a top-order batter bats at least 10 overs, then it's better for the team and I am trying to do that. Karachi's decks were more batting-friendly, here it's slightly difficult especially against the new ball. This is an important victory for us as we've halted the defending champions in their tracks. The atmosphere was incredible tonight and I hope it will be even better when 100% crowd capacity is allowed."
Presentations coming shortly, stay tuned
11.30 PM: The Qalandars have done it and they've done it emphatically. They came close to knocking over the Sultans in Karachi, too, but avenging them in front of their home crowd would taste sweeter. It was set up by a red-hot fast-bowling spell early on where Shaheen Afridi plucked out the in-form Shan Masood. Sohaib Maqsood and Mohammad Rizwan then went about steadying the ship but couldn't inject any impetus in the run-chase. Rashid Khan's double strike through the middle-overs then meant that Multan were always chasing the game. Tim David showcased his firepower for a short span of time and when he was dismissed by Zaman Khan, it was just about over for the Sultans. All four of Lahore's front-line bowlers were amongst the wickets with Zaman taking the honors for his 3/21. The Qalandars have consolidated their position in the upper half of the ladder and are breathing down the Sultans' necks now.
Lahore Qalandars have won by 52 runs
Well-executed yorker, middle and leg-stump line, does well to dig it out
Off-cutter, dragged wide outside off, Dahani waits for it and inside-edges his swing down to wide long-on
Zaman Khan to bowl the last
Fuller length, Tahir drives uppishly and it just lands short of Shaheen running in from mid-off
Pace-on, just outside off, tries to go up and over the off-side but gets beaten
Very full again, shuffles away and pumps it down the ground, just one there
Dude: "@Abbasi!! and they're Green in color... It's 7th season I've been supporting this team... Pakistan, Qalandars, and Melbourne Stars, I'm a fan of Men in Green..."
Yorker length, just outside off, mows across the line but he's no way near this
Banged in short, Dahani slinks away outside leg and gives it an almighty swing, misses out
Slower ball, in the channel, open-faced dab towards point
Sarah : "There had to be one game sultans lost, better it be now than in the knockouts "
Woof, tries to be cheeky as he brings out the ramp shot to this length delivery but cannot get any bat on this
Over the wicket now, bangs it in short and Dahani is quite late on his pull-shot. Shaheen, though, will have to rebowl that as he's overstepped
Cracked through the covers! Geez, he's hit that hard. Shuffles outside leg to this fuller delivery and just smokes it through the off-side
Leg-byes, again going for that fiery yorker of his but gets this on the pads, Dahani swipes across the line; it brushes his pad and scoots away to the thirdman boundary
Shahnawaz Dahani the last man in
Cleaned him up! Yorker length on off, tailing away a touch as Muzarabani pokes at it but gets beaten by the extra pace as it clatters into the timberwork behind
Goes round the wicket now, slower ball on the stumps, softly glided down to thirdman
Abbasi: "Qalandars are almost like Pakistan cricket team. not the favorites in tournaments but still most exciting to watch, unpredictable, losing from the loose ones and crushing top sides, dropping catches and many more similarities. "
Very full, swerving across, mistimed drive towards mid-off
Fiery yorker, tails in with the reverse swing on offer, squeezed out to square leg
Very full, targeting the leg-stump, gingerly pushed towards long-off
Yorker length, wide outside off, tries to jam his bat down but gets nothing on it
Blessing Muzarabani in
Lahore Qalandars marching towards a big win
Holed out! Takes the pace off this one, half-volley length, Khushdil loads up for a full-blooded hack across the line, toe-ends it straight down the fielder's throat positioned at cow corner
Banged in short, slightly slower in pace, under-edges his attempted pull shot to the keeper
Scythed away with disdain! Incredible hand-eye coordination from Khushdil. Length ball from Rauf, Khushdil rides the bounce and carves it over the point region. He's nailed it off the middle and it carries all the way for six
