Round the wicket, back of a length, angling in at middle and leg, tugged away in the gap at deep fine leg and it skittles away to the rope. Quetta win this cliffhanger by five wickets!
Kings vs Gladiators, 16th Match at Karachi, PSL, Feb 29 2024 - Match Result
Gladiators won by 5 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)
Thanks for your company, hope you enjoyed the nail-biter. We'll be back on Saturday for more PSL action. See you then!
Sherfane Rutherford: It's never easy, coming in and playing shots from the get go, but it's something we get paid for, don't wanna look at excuses...always a good feeling when you get it right. In pressure situations, he (Shane Watson) told me to focus on the ball, stay calm and focus on what's happening at the moment and I just tried to stay calm. I knew the longer I bat it's better for me and the team. As I said, it's my job and I try to give it my best, sometimes it doesn't happen but I try to make it happen more often than not.
That will be that. This heart-stopping thriller kept us all on the edge of our seats. It was a fierce tug-of-war between these two sides, with neither willing to accept defeat but it was Rutherford who stood tall against all challenges in the end and got his team to the doorstep of victory. Karachi Kings might have felt they were 10-15 runs short of par but their bowlers fought till the end. The fielding let Karachi Kings down in the crunch moments and that run-out in the end could have completely changed the momentum but Rutherford was a man on a mission. Quetta weren't perfect either but they managed to hold their nerve in the decisive moments.
Chaos! Slung a full-toss in the channel, throws his bat at it and the outside edge takes it to backward point, horrible mix-up in the middle, Rutherford wanted a second but it wasn't on, a full-length dive from Rutherford has saved him. Anwar collected the throw and wasn't quick enough in hitting the stumps Oh my what drama! 1 off 1 required No case of obstruction of field because he was scrambling back into his crease without any intent to obstruct the fielder, excellent presence of mind from Rutherford, ragged work in the field from Karachi Kings.
MJ: "@Mueed: Carlos Brathwaite underway by Rutherford."
Hold-on, it's not over yet. He bowls a stunning inswinging yorker from round the wicket, once again tries to jab it away but can't make a connection, even a faint one would have sent it to the rope at deep third
M Usman Mehsood: "@mueed do I still mark your word??"
Slung fuller and got it to tail back from outside off, jams the bat down and cannot connect
Ahmed: "Noboby but Anwar Ali to blame for that loss. First for the 2 sixes, and then the missed run out chance."
Shortish, wide, and Rutherford slashes hard at it, just clears Pollard at long-off, can't give him any width. It's all over. That angle is not posing much challenge, bowling in his hitting zones and getting smashed
Areez Khalil Me: "Remember the name Rutherford"
Kerplunk! Round the wicket, shortish and angling in from wide of off, spanked over deep extra cover for a six
Mueed: "We are going to witness Anwar heriocs today, first with the bat and now with the ball. He is going to defend this, mark my words"
Naman: "If Quetta loses this one then they owe it to the dot balls they played throughout their innings..Even the last 3 overs had 7 dot balls."
Round the wicket, full-bunger just outside off, opens the face and dabbed square into the gap at deep backward point, mopped by the fielder in the deep
Ouch! That's a nasty bumper that smashed him on the helmet. That's a bumper of an angry bowler, very mean stuff from Hasan, couldn't have directed it any better, he went for the pull and got late, it shot up so quickly off the pitch. Hasan gives him a fist-bump and asks him if he's okay. Concussion protocol underway now
Good length and arcing in at middle, sweet timing as he connects this towards deep midwicket, two fielders converging, Vince cuts it off
Slung full and it tails in from outside off, tries to punch and gets beaten
Round the wicket, slightly shorter just outside off, not much wrong with the delivery but it's Rutherford! BANG! That is huge, absolutely munched this into the stands over long-off. Excellent connection and that's outta here
Rams the yorker on fifth stump line outside off, brings his bat down, opens the face and squeezes it to sweeper cover
MJ: "West Indies players always make T20 so lively I wonder why they are not no.1 in T20I?"
Mueed: "@ShahSafeer, i second the thought."
Pace off short of a length ball hung away outside off, crunches a pull with not a lot of oomph to Vince at deep midwicket
Slung full and zipping away outside off, jabbed to sweeper cover
Going, going, going and gone! Manufactures pace for himself and pumps it for six Another slower one on a length at middle, this time he times the pants off it and sends it many a mile over deep midwicket, got too predictable with the slower ones.
Oh beautiful. Flummoxes him with a slower one on a slightly shorter length and it sways away outside off, mistimes the pull, it kept very low, takes a big heart to bowl these slower ones at this stage
Pace off cutter on a length outside off, steered to short third and will only pick up a single
An absolute snorter that roars through the gate, he wanted to blaze it over midwicket but can't lay bat on it
Imperious! In the slot for Rutherford and he does not miss out. MONSTER HIT! Deposited on the roof over midwicket. It's a 104 meters maximum. He dragged it short on off and he pounces on it in a jiffy, ruins his otherwise good over. Such a timely six to keep the equation manageable
That's a stay quiet stunning yorker tailing away from middle, jams his bat down and blocks it into the covers
