victory for South Africa, de Villiers nudges it late and nudges it fine and times it well enough for the ball to scurry to the third man fence
South Africa vs Pakistan, 5th ODI at Johannesburg, Feb 14 2007 - Ball by Ball Commentary
South Africa won by 9 wickets (with 130 balls remaining)
South Africa take the series 3-1 with this emphatic nine-wicket victory. Shaun Pollock set it up for them by decimating Pakistan's top-order with a ten-over spell that yeilded 5 for 23. They were dismissed for 153 and it was never going to be enough even after Graeme Smith was dismissed of fthe first ball of the chase.
de Villiers and Kallis struck aggressive fifties and took South Africa home with 22.4 overs to spare. You would have hoped that Pakistan would fight hard and give us a tight contest to enjoy but once again South Africa have swamped them and finished off another one-sided match.
Shaun Pollock is the Man of the Match, no surprises there. His spell knocked Pakistan out of the contest. He is also the Man of the Series, his third such award of the summer.
South Africa will head to the Caribbean with supreme confidence and they certainly are among the favourites to win the World Cup. Pakistan, on the other hand, have a fantastic team on paper but they have been woefully flat on the field barring the fabulous Asif.
That's it from us at Cricinfo, congratulations to South Africa. This is George Binoy saying goodnight.
Kallis steers it behind point for one more run
dabbed in front of point for a single, that takes South Africa to 151, just three runs away from taking the series
Kallis steps down the pitch and lofts Hafeez just over the fielder at mid-off for four, just four needed now
defended to short leg on the front foot
Kallis pushes Hafeez on the front foot to mid-on
pushed to midwicket on the front foot
defended back to the bowler on the front foot
played to short third man, de Villiers wanted the single and set off, Kallis sends him back but the throw came to the wrong end
defended to cover on the front foot
drifts down leg side, he gets away with that one
de Villiers turns it to short fine leg for one, but Pakistan concede overthrows as well, their body language is non-existant at the moment
tossed up on middle stump, de Villiers leans forward and drives to deep midwicket for a single to retain strike
slips down leg side, de Villiers moves across and tickles it to short fine leg
dabbed with soft hands to point for a single
played off the pads through square leg for one
pushed through quicker on leg stump, de Villiers plays back and turns it to short fine leg
tossed up on off stump, Kallis moves across and works it through midwicket for one
My apologies to Kallis, I had mentioned earlier that he had reached 8000 ODI runs when in fact it was 8500. Mohammad Hafeez to replace Razzaq.
